*Wanders in, well, limps in........hahha, pours brandy*
HI MDF!! sounds like a ton of fun!!! yay!
I loved the games Elorrum and Dougly are discussing,too........so much fun, for a dime!
Had a fun time at Pineys, helping put up and roof a new sun room. got rained on! hahaa.
Plenty of Burners stopped by!
dang, 420........sorry to miss you.........well, next time I'm up there?
so, in todays "WTF, Sometimes you're just lucky, Where the fuck does this go" combined thread:
maybe this should be in the "fuck" thread, I dunno:
we're driving back from Reno, thoroughly exhausted from a weekend of work, fun and party. Looney Tune is driving, because I got sleepy.
This is on Highway 20, just after leaving I80, heading towards Nevada City.
It suddenly starts hailing.........and hailing so hard, we were fearing the windshield on my truck might break. So, along with a couple other cars, pulled over off the roadway, due to visibility, and that in about 2 mins 3" of hail had already accumulated on the road!
So, as we were pulling off, in the distance (through the veil of super heavy hail) we see an awkward, flailing and rotating action.
It took a second, for both of us to realize, about 1/4 mile ahead of us, a guy had just flipped his motorcycle and gone careening and skidding/bouncing down the highway!
Awe crap! we both said!
As we saw cars in both directions stop, I started watching for secondary issues (secondary accidents from stopping and such) and as the seconds peeled off no one was getting out to help the guy laying in the road. NO ONE!!
I said "Fuck this" "you stay here, I'll beckon you if we need the truck to help, I gotta go see if the guy is ok!
so I donned my PGE sweathshirt and bailed out of the truck, running right up the middle of the highway, stopping traffic and cussing at the people sitting in their warm dry cars, watching!! no one could go, because I was literally in the middle of the two lane road, running, slipping and verbally assaulting them all as I approached the down biker.
FUCKING HUMANS*** I yelled!
It must have gotten the bikers attention, as he then stood up as I came to a skidding halt, gasping for air (I'm not much of a runner)
First, I say "show me your face, don't move, are you ok?",, he flips up his visor, I see no blood, but and elderly chap, probably the other side of 70.
he says "I'm fine"
I say (understand adrenaline is flowing) "fuck if you are, you sit the fuck down, and don't move till I look at your eyes and you tell me what day it is, and if you'r hurt or bleeding"
he complied (could it have been the wild look in my eyes, my yelling at people to help, as I ran there, and my wet hair, steaming breath and very loud instructions? haha).
anyway, after a few seconds, he assured me he could stand.
so, we started trying to pull his full size, full dressed BMW out of the lane of traffic.
Still no help!!!!
I stopped, as traffic by that point had started to inch forward, stepped back in the road, halted them and yelled "someone get the fuck out, and help us move this poor mans bike, you cocksuckers" (do I sound enraged yet?)
Well, the people adjacent to me, locked their doors and sped off..........ahahaa, but the next truck and a jeep back, stopped, and got out to help.
Yay!
we righted the bike, just as an off duty paramedic came trotting down from up where my truck was, stating he's a paramedic, and did anyone need help?
I pointed at the rider, standing sort of dazed, who said "I"m ok",
of course, I said "fuck if you are, let this nice man check you, you just did a double gainer with two twists off a rolling platform into pavement".. we chuckled a little at that.
The medic started checking, while we rolled the bike off the road.
As folks started inching by, I castigated each and every car that had been within earshot, for not helping, but I'm glad they were warm and dry........... none waved or smiled.
we got his bike off the side, the helpers went back to their vehicles (soaking wet, it had not yet stopped hailing/slushing), but with thanks and a handshake.
the medic and I again queried the rider as to condition, he said "go on, I'll get back to town"........
no.
we stayed to make sure the bike started, and after a time it did. we then went down the hill to retrieve his seat (it had flown off he bike), put it on, and I offered to take him to town.
he, of course, wanted to stay with his bike,so, as it idled, I elicited a promise he'd not move, until the hail was gone (the traffic had almost already cleared the road to just wet pavement), and that he'd go straight home.
The medic pronounced the fellow fit, owing to a full kevlar, padded riding suit and good helmet, and felt him ok to go home on his own.
I once more asked the medic if he seemed ok, and the reply was "yes", with confidence. So, I thanked the medic, who was soaked and he ran back to his truck.
the old fellow, shaken but ok, gave me assurance, he'd not take a risk, and if he felt weird at all, he'd stop and wave for help.
I trotted back up the highway (middle) just because I could and traffic was stopping for me, got in the truck and pulled out, stopping to give the "ok" sign to the rider............and drove........and then started to cry.......
damn fucking people!!!
A human had been bouncing and rolling down the highway, and no one, NO ONE, got out to help!! Poor damn guy could have just died alone, people watching from inside their warm cars, so they'd not get wet, or be late, or whatever.
Fuck!! I mean, thanks to those that finally did pitch in, indeed. But it took so long, for anyone to react, it'd have been deadly had he been seriously injured!
Maybe is was the adrenaline wearing off, the ice cold shivering I was doing.....I dunno but I just couldn't help it..........thinking of how lonely a sight to witness such an apathetic response to emergency.
I drove on about 10 miles, seeing a happy family riding bicycles (there is a a very nice trail off the side of the highway, but visible), and just as I approached one of the 4 kids, biffed, and went over the handlebars.
SHIT!!
I started to slam on the brakes, to render assistance, when LooneyTune correctly pointed out, the dad stopped instantly, mom was braking, the other kids stopped and the "biffer" was standing............
we continued on............
I'm now having a brandy, or 5.
sorry for the rant, I just had to get that off my chest, my utter dismay at a humanity that would just sit and watch an event, as such, and not react...................
ETA: Looneytune took a photo of my running......well, can't see me, but you can see the road.
