FInally started learning this old engrver I acquired. Ran a prototype for some dog tags. Still need to nail down the centering and some other settings.

Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

I hope you didn't make a bazillion dog tags yet. I had to check but Cargo Cult is the theme for 2013 not 2012.

Doh! Thanks for pointing that out. I've been dong 2012 reconciliations at work, so that must be where my mind is. I better check the checks I wrote this week.BeeWeeDee wrote:I hope you didn't make a bazillion dog tags yet. I had to check but Cargo Cult is the theme for 2013 not 2012.
That's just the crappy first one. I'm going to hit Home Depot tomorrow to try and make a custom clamp that will keep them stable and centered better than the adhesive I've been using.
And I wanted the man logo to look more.. wicker like? Like the man itself. I've found logos that use the head,

and I feel ike Ive seen some logos that carry the theme throughout the whole body, but my google-fu is weak today.

Sometime in the next couple weeks I paln to gather all the material to build my shade structure. Once gathered I'll head to a park somewhere in town to assemble it to make sure it works before the Playa. Pictures will be taken.

I got as a committed an "ok" as I'm likely to get from Chef about my need for 17 or so days at the end of August. It's touchy because it spans Labor Day weekend and I'm up for a promotion which will be taking some of his workload away. He hasn't had any significant time off in years and has been know to deny requests with "if I can't take one no one can".
So now I'm down to two obstacles the first being seeing my Buddy off in the best way I can (so far, things are going well) and finally the minor detail of letting my wife know

Sic pup, Would you like us ALL to email him and beg? We could convince him that the universe is counting on you attending. Kind of a 'virtual' flash mob.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Har! Thanks for the offer, Ratty, but I can think of no better way for her to nix the whole idea tout suite...ha ha.
Actually it's wrong of me to categorize it as an obstacle as she has always been very supportive of my foibles (although I've still got a little work to do on the whole monogamish thing). It's, really, more a question of timing. I'm sure after a proper mourning period she'll be more than happy to have me out of her hair for awhile. I just don't want to overload her as we're both really focused on handling things the right way. Hell, I may even get her to take the ride as far as Denver (where my oldest child now resides) which would be nice to have someone to share some of the driving, to say nothing of the adventure.
If need be I can use my placing a proper memorial to Bud in the temple as further justification. She knows I've already done so for my best friend lost in 9/11 and another friends child and knows how important it is to me in dealing with loss.

I made things to wear! Tanktops sliced into decorative fringe. One long swingy one, and one marcrame style. (both in black!) The neat thing is they were men's A-shirts, so the collar is quite high.
It has been a long time since I felt like making anything. I'm pleased.

I specifically got really cheap air filters that didn't have that fiberglass material. Something like this http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rheem-20-in- ... YcnvoJAu4Umaladroit wrote:How did you handle the fiberglass filaments sticking to the jerky?Milayna wrote:Beef jerky was a huge success!!! Seriously the best beef jerky I've ever had. Clocksnmirrors if you google Alton Brown beef jerky his recipe and video of how to do it comes up. You use 2 ac filters and a box fan to dehydrate it, sooooo good!!!!
Alton Brown is a big fat liar!![]()
It was like a soft paper-ish, felt-ish material that I ran my hands over to make sure that nothing would come off of it. Worked great! All the jerky has already been eaten and enjoyed!

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I ordered up some of the lighting gear I'll need for the installation. There will still be more to get, but I wanted to get some fixtures earlier on so I could test things out as I build.
Re: One Item for BM a Day
Started frying bacon and stashing the fried bacon in the freezer. Less grease on the playa that way. The problem is that I cook a pound and eat half of it before it gets in the freezer. Accumulation is occurring though.
Got my ticket ordered for E-11. The roof rack on my car is installed.
The tipi is under construction.
Left to do is work on the bike - routine maintenance and a check out.
Dug out the camping gear and piled it in my living room. The first camp out this weekend should reveal something.

Yes! I had a Coleman inflatable last year, worked great, I used fleece sheets and a fake-fur blanket and had no problems.clocksnmirrors wrote:MyDearFriend wrote:Time off approved.Airplane tickets bought. Resorted my plastic containers, wondering what bedding to bring this year...

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Congrats on the time off approvals! And for the other stuff too, but even when you've got a great boss there's a bit of nail-biting while waiting for confirmation that all's clear.
I finally placed the order for water containers today. My girlfriend and I have wanted to step up to a longer-term reusable container for a couple years, something we can use for on and off the playa (disaster/emergency kit, as well as random traveling/camping/events). Barrels are bigger and bulkier than we need (not to mention a bit unwieldy for two people to transport), so we've found a 7 gallon stackable container that works for us.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Just bought a headlamp on overstock for 12$ inc. shipping. It will be handy for night maintenance, although I won't blind people with it walking around (assholes). But really, it's for crafting
these things are so great for detail work and better than a shop lamp. I've also ordered more lotus LEDs, and plan to make several lit flower crowns to share.
