BRC Musical Theater Dept.
BRC Musical Theater Dept.
Does anyone know of any existing groups that may have put on a musical theater production in BRC? If not, who would be interested in teaming on a possible production of "Little Shop of Horrors" this year? It may be late to start prop construction/budget, but I am pretty sure art grants are still open. I thought the idea of the "plant from Space" would fit nicely with Cargo Cult; and seriously, if you don't love that musical you might not have a soul.

..and by pretty sure art grants are open I mean apps had to be in by Feb 1 and trilobyte posted the results of that.. oops. Art installation registration is open until mid-June, hence my confusion.

Re: BRC Musical Theater Dept.
There have been many over the years. The Burning Opera springs to mind (RIP Pepe Ozan), but there have been many other live theater productions over the years. There is usually at least one camp staging a Rocky Horror Show production, and occasionally other stuff pops up. I can't think of anything that's been announced yet for this year, keep an eye on the boards or go taking a look through past years' Art & Performance boards to see any threads about past productions and reach out to the organizers. You might also want to consider posting a listing on the Spark collaboration tool.

Do it with minimal props and costuming that's all portable. (Plastic daisy in a pot "feed me")
Then just show up and do the show anywhere on the playa.
"Flash mob musical theater!"
I would watch this and I think it would be a wonderful surprise performance every time you did it!

Or a person in a ruff with flower petals... And you don't have to make Audrey II grow, it can be some sort of measure of Seymore's being out of touch with reality. Or not.FIGJAM wrote:(Plastic daisy in a pot "feed me")

Oo, I like your idea of a person in a ruff w/ petals! There could be a table or giant flowerpot that separates. The first time you see Audrey II, it's just a fake plant, then the actor (head-only) and then! . . . The table separates and it's an actor in a green body stocking and ruff, rampaging about. Terror & singing ensue.theCryptofishist wrote:Or a person in a ruff with flower petals... Have you ever seen the director's cut, with the original ending? Holy crap. I had to rush to buy the theatrical release so I wouldn't have nightmares.

This is what I had in mind, think of it as "Littler Shop of Horrors"
There isn't a large cast to begin with..
Doing multiple short performances at various locations seems like a good option for reaching the largest total audience.
Drafting to begin asap, interested collaborators contact me, I will post on Spark too!
Google group for rehearsals and some playa time to choreograph and should be able to perform by Wednesday!

I've seen the Corman once. And I"ve never seen the musical. That I happen to know the name of the plant is a little... I dunno, I have all this crap in my brain. I'm sure I could be using those neurons for something else.Savannah wrote:I've heard about it! Re: BRC Musical Theater Dept.
There are three DVD releases I know of. The original Corman, the familiar musical theatrical release, and the director's cut which was panned so badly by test audiences, they went back to the studio and created a new ending.
