Re: The Bar, Volume #4
BvB covered all the basics, if you computer is less than around 2 years old you can probably plug a second monitor in and it will work, if not you would have to go and buy a uprated Graphics card that can handle multiple monitors.burner von braun wrote:Two (or more) monitor setups depend primarily on your graphics card within the machine, and whether it is up to the task. More and more these days, they are. If the card is able, then a cable connection, and a dialogue set up window or two, and you're in business. It is really nice to have the additional screen real estate to work with. It has been a while since I set mine up, and I tend to leave it be once it is the way I like it, but I'll look mine over again if any of you want a run through. I'm sure there are others here who are more computer savvy than I, but it isn't all that difficult usually.
A nice option is a laptop with a permanent docking station of sorts. You have two monitors, keyboard and mouse at home (the permanent monitor is usually nicer than the laptop screen), but you can disengage the laptop at will and take it with you.
Or a 'serious' desktop workstation with multiple monitors in a more permanent arrangement can boost productivity, especially with software that uses a number of windows open at once.
The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
I'm a big fan of mulitiple displays, BvB. My current setup uses two, plus I've got a laptop handy as well as a tablet for additional handiness, if need be. And I've helped coordinate things so that if I have a browser window open on one machine it can easily be opened on the other device, gotta love that. For me, that's huge - I do the majority of my work on the big machine with dual displays (actually has two dedicated cards in it), but if that gets tied up in a render or other big computing project I can easily do the surfing or other light duty stuff on another machine.
In other news, had another great campmate meeting today. Some awesome folks who couldn't make it last week were able to swing by for drinks and nibbles and sharing of ideas today. Curio cart was well received, plus people bubbling with even more enthusiasm than expected. Art wise I think we're headed for great things, this is gonna be the best burn yet!

tummy needs a reset.
when I get bad tummy I eat tabbouleh salad fixes it every time, also one of my favorite playa foods.
love you much but I gotta go try to sleep again. my sleep cycle has been hella screwy, i think I better go have blood drawn, and let the Endocrinologist take a peek.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not eating yet, this shit was explosive enough for a trip to the ER last night. I have a lot of cleaning up to do I don't want to face.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Hey all, poking my head in here after a long absence due to 100 hour work weeks. And then vacation. I didn't have the heart to read more than the last two back pages, so I'm sure I've missed a lot. And now I know what Bentonite is, where it's found, and what it's used for, but have no idea why the topic was brought up. And I'm not yet curious enough to surf the back pages.
So again: hi!!! *waves hand like a total geek*

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Hey Pink! Nice to see you. I hope the vacation healed you some after the beastly work weeks. Anti M, I'm sending over the bar's clean-bot. Be warned about the "dusting" setting, it's not what you might think.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
The Bentonite Chronicles was my fault -- my brother has a duck pond that leaks.
And I sure remember those 100 hour work weeks from my days as a truck driver.
Carry on.

did i forget to mention that the hotel internet/wifi is capped at 1 megabit ?
1 fuckin megabit!
the first time i got highspeed internet, in 1998, it was 1.1megabit SDSL..
i left that place soon after, in 1999 and got 3megabit...
when i left chicago last week i had a 50megabit line.
good fuckin lord, some webpages load like a 56k modem experience... like i can see the images scrolling down as they load, like lookin at porno pages on dialup
at least i get a steady 1megabit, .. i dont know if i could handle much less.
lol, youtube is like 'omg get a bigger modem, asshole'
i had to turn off the flash plugin for this forum because the browser would be all like 'omg fu!!!' and act all laggy as it waited to finish downloading youtube vids and shit.
heh.
i didnt realize how spoiled i had been ;-P
could be worse.
