Loin cloth pattern
I've searched the web for a pattern and I can't find one that is made of fur. I have this nice fur and I wanted to make one for a friend. and one for me! Anyone have a simple caveman-ish type loin cloth pattern?
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

Re: Loin cloth pattern
Post above is not a loin cloth. Lion cloths are just to cover the butt and junk. The above is for a one armed tunic. Think Fred flinstone outfit.
It's just two squares with two long strips connectin the sides. Or a triangle in front and square in back with two strips connecting the pieces.

Fur loincloths - if the fur is in contact with the skin - can function sort of like a diaper, if you know what I mean...

Re: Loin cloth pattern
eHow is an internet abomination. It's a content farm plague that infects search results with links to vacuous articles that disappoint at every level. It should never be linked to. If I had a choice to nuke any single website on the internet it would be that one. Unfortunately, that site is just one of many other garbage "content" honeypots filled with useless articles on "every subject" with little meaning or value. The closest I've come to ridding myself of that site is installing browser extensions specifically to block shit-ass search results from sites like that in addition to outright blocking that site in my HOSTS file if I have a moment of weakness, accident, insanity, or just plain ol' masochism and click a link going to that site.
Please do your part in not passing around that Internet STD (search transmitted disease).

Re: Loin cloth pattern
I don't mean to state the obvious… but it's a loincloth! If ever there's an article of clothing that requires no pattern, it's shit worn by cavemen, castaways, survivalists, and Tarzan. Step one, get chunk of material. Step two, cover the bits you want to cover. Step three, use any means available to hold it in place.

Re: Loin cloth pattern
True, it is probably the simplest and easiest form of clothing ever invented, but making one with faux fur takes a bit more thought than using an animal hide.
This is how I make mine:
1. Put a belt around your waist.
2. In front and back, measure from the belt top down to the extent you want to cover and the approximate width.
3. Make a paper pattern in a triangular shape with those measurements (irregular looks better with fur). If looking to make a breechclout then make it squared off (does not look good with fur).
4. Measure from the top of the belt in front under the crotch to top of belt in the back and add an inch or two - this is the length of the connecting piece.
5. Cut a rectangular piece of fabric in that length and the width of your triangular front and back pieces.
6. Sew the 3 pieces together.
Tips:
Don't forget to add seam allowances on the edges that are to be sewn.
Do not use fur for the crotch area - it will be way too warm. A soft cotton or flannel is best. If you do choose to use fur for this part it should be on the outside and lined with a soft fabric.
Do not make the center (crotch piece) too wide or it will feel like you are wearing a diaper.
Make a matching belt from fabric - way long so you can tie it closed.
Hope this helps.

It appears that it's just a rectangular piece of fabric.

I crocheted mine. Softest cord possible made all the difference, but I did wear it with a utility belt more than once. (cheating in this picture with a bikini-bottom underneath, but I was on my way to meet all you fuckos and wasn't that brave)

Delle's is screen saver worthy. In fact a previously posted photo of it is my screen saver.

Re: Loin cloth pattern
I'll be serious for a sec: only trick with a shemagh/keffiyeh is that when you fold the square diagonally, it should be at minimum as long as your outstretched arms (make yourself into a "T"). Otherwise when you wrap it around your head it won't fit correctly.SouthernExposure wrote:TomServo,

Re: Loin cloth pattern
does the length of the loin cloth denote anything in particular?
