I've been searching craigslist for the right "new" couch for the Land Yacht, found a big red velour 9 footer that I might go get.

Made some covers for my fire poi - not that I ever seem to spin much on the playa.

Or this http://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/rvs/3805851388.html
This one at least has a fridge http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/rvs/3803353267.html
So does this http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/rvs/3799174425.html
I had many of these old campers before...
The Caveman doesn't appear to have any greywater tank. It's got no water heater and I can't see a heater. That one also has no fridge, it's an icebox, useless. You'll end up putting your food in an ice chest.
I'd keep looking for a screamin' deal on something just a few years later, 1976 at least. I had several of these old pre-mid-'70s campers. It does beat a tent but I figure if you're gonna haul the weight and size of a camper on your truck, you might as well have some facilities in it.
This year I'm carrying an '87 Vacationeer 11.5 footer with everything you can think of, and I paid $1500 for it. Luxury on the playa but old enough to not worry about it and cheap enough to justify for only one week a year's use.
I've had cheaper ones that still had showers, air conditioners, water heaters, refrigerators, etc.
But if you want it and he doesn't take the $500 (I'd offer $400!) then wish him a nice day as you leave.

The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

i thought with a sink it would have the hot water and the grey water taken care of , also the fridge couldnt tell if was a icebox from photo. Suppose to call before driving out , will ask more and save the trip if its just a icebox

Re: One Item for BM a Day
You can tell it's not a fridge because there's no access hatch on the exterior behind it. No hot water faucet on sink means no hot water heater, which is kinda' moot cuz no shower. Let me tell ya', your own nice hot shower is solid gold on the playa! If it had a grey water tank it would be under the rear of the camper, you'd see it and the drain valve.
Really, I'd pass on it. And I'm no snooty rich guy.
PM me about whatever camper you are gonna look at, I've had a lot of them, I'll have a look and tell ya' what things to look for, where the hidden damage and rot is, etc.
Always check the fridge, that's the most expensive item in the thing and in an old camper it's probably worth more than the whole rest of the thing. Physically verify that it gets cold. If it smells like ammonia, it's history. If it doesn't work, don't believe anything the seller says about why, or about how easy or cheap to fix it is. It isn't. And if it was, he'd have done it. If it works on propane but not on AC or DC, no big deal, you'll run it on propane all the time anyway.

If you put some LEDs on there, you can do some glo spinning without even having to light up.

I'm in the same boat, the camper part of "Frankencamper" was 1200, has toilet/ shower, good fridge, swampcooler, grey and black water tanks, etc, etc. and all worked.
IIRC, you got that nice old Ford F250? it'll handle any camper you can buy!!
and, if Cap'n is busy, I'm happy to advise, as well, having had many "low price" (not necessarily cheap) campers and trailers, and worked on same.
Where are you located? OR or CA , IIRC?

You guys are all doing hardware stuff that I don't begin to understand. I made a collar out of stuffed animals for my fur vest.
I had to unstuff them and re-sew them with just a tiny bit of lightweight filling.

Awesome fur covers, Drawingablank! If you ever find yourself with a little extra white yeti fur, try making covers for the LED poi, the glow effect it has is pretty epic.
We wound up getting a couple new ruggedized lighting controllers for our trikes at the Maker Faire. It'll take a little work to wrap our heads around arduino programming, but it's something we've been meaning to do for a while and it's reassuring to know a few of the experts at our lighting supplier will have our backs if we really need it.
There were lots of great playa memories at the faire, too. Nautilove (the nautilus art car), zonotopia, giant mouse trap, zoa, and a dozen things whose names escape me. It's even more fun to see the non-burners squee with delight when they see those things for the first time.

been working on truck , runs good but gets 10mph -country rd driving. It has a High performance Carter carb on a eldenbrook manifold but single exhaust
Dont have the funds to get dual exhaust installed so
will pay for the gas.
Also IM going to have the transmission checked , and the carb tuned to that exhaust . The idle is a little high , if you turn it down a bit it wants to die at stop signs.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Both excellent choices!tattoogoddess wrote: Bought a 1.75l of Malibu and a bottle of bacon vodka after work with my tips. Yay booze!
About the Ford wanting to die at stoplights... starting with the basics, good plugs, cap, rotor, wires... timing set right? If you have no timing light, you can do it the "shade-tree" way, advance it (turn distributor counterclockwise) until it knocks when you floor it, then back it off until it doesn't, and then a little bit more.
Vacuum leaks can make it do that. There are only a few vacuum lines in your truck, plus it can leak vacuum around the base of the carb, maybe one of the unused vacuum ports on the carb hasn't got a little rubber cap on it... one way to check is to spray something like WD-40 or brake cleaner or starting fluid at suspected areas; if it runs better as you do, you found it.
Those two idle mixture adjustment screws on the front bottom of an Carter carb might need tweaking. One at a time, turn them in until it noticeably runs shitty, then back out until it runs noticeably shitty, then go about between those two. it tends to be easier to keep track of where you are if you always go in one-full-turn steps, or maybe one-half-turn steps. That way you can count turns and know where you are.
Those only adjust idle mixture, the jets inside do the running mixture. I think it's safer to stay a little rich, you get less detonation and you have less risk of overheating. They tend to come from Carter jetted a little rich for that reason. The single exhaust on your motor might make it seem a little rich too, but unless it's extreme I don't think that will make it die at stoplights. If yours is way too rich you will have a fair bit of black smoke from the pipes and your spark pugs will look dark if you pull them out.
Try that stuff, see if it responds well.
Ygmir? Your turn... what do you think?

I'm still unsure if I'll be attending TTITD this year, but I bought a hammock shelter for other adventures that will lend itself well in the event things do come together.
