Sorry I missed you, Trillo. What a mob! Saw a number of 3 D printers and was blown away at the simple elegance of the devices. Once I saw it, it became so very obvious. Wouldn't be surprised if they were commercially available in a year or two. Elliot was in fine fettle and we had a nice meet up. Got home dog tired, put my feet up and that was it for the night.

The 3D printers are coming along nicely - many are available either as kits or commercially. Since a lot of the people who exhibit at MF are still early startups, they have that DIY look and feel because they're making the parts of the body using laser cut wood. The one Pani's got her eye on is sold as a full product for around $1200. There are kits for less, but she doesn't have any interest in spending her time building the machine, just her art.

That was quite a mob though, wasn't it? Last year was my first time and I came through on a Sunday, yesterday felt like twice as many people. Kudos to the organizers, none of the lines really struck me as unreasonable.

Well dang, sorry to see that Rice may not be able to make it to the burn this year, but yay for gainful employment. I was hoping to get a chance to meet you in person, but I guess it will have to wait for another time.

Summer seems to be right around the corner here, though we are still getting plenty of rain. I started digging around the garage this weekend, locating 'camping gear'. I think I'll order some bi-filament hexayurt tape this week. It's about time to retape the edges of the yurt soon, and get that set to go, so I can move on to other things.

A foxfur visit could be a lot of fun, Yggy. Especially if you've got stuff that needs blowing up or a bunch of spam to grill up.

You said it, Marty, great weather here in the bay area. My condolences to those dealing with cold and wet, and yeesh, tornado extremes. Having grown up in the midwest, I don't miss that junk one bit. I remember tractor commercials on TV as well as the radio quite a bit when I was spending lots of time in Ohio. I lived in western Pennsylvania for a long time, but worked for a company that was based in Columbus and was responsible for their locations in the northern half of Ohio (as well as PA and NY). If you're in northern Ohio the Cedar's Point amusement park (just outside Sandusky, near Cleveland) is a lot of fun, down south aim for one I think was called King's Island (near Cincinnati). Otherwise I think the big stuff that passes for fun are sporting events, racing, and (you guessed it) tractor pulls.

Big cut days coming up this week, starting with today. I've got my gear bag almost ready to go, I just need check a few more things and get more caffeine into my system, then away I go.

Home from Maker Faire. Yep, met MagicMarty, and his daughter Sabrina. Sabrina is Marketing Director for the new S.F. Exploratorium! She told me the new Tactile Dome is still under construction and will be bigger and better than the old one.

Also met Oscillator, and BetaBox in his tall robot-looking Mutant Vehicle. The place was just packed with Burners.

In the Figure 8 Pedal Car races, there were more collisions than last year. Wire-spoke wheels do not respond well to sideways impacts. Of course, my Steamroller is bomb proof. But also slowest. I went in the Dunk Tank for being the Loser both days. It works like this: The Winner of each heat gets to dunk the Loser. Only the various crashes and breakdowns kept me from being the Loser every time! Great fun. And lots of good conversations about Making Things, and about Kinetic Sculpture Racing (the race is next weekend).

Say.... At MF, a young lady from the Life Size Mousetrap invited me to something called Camp Tipsy, to be held June 20-23 at a lake near Stonyford, CA. That's in my neck-of-the-woods. The concept is that they build goofy improvised boats and try to sail them on the lake. The photos on the web site look like they are having a fine time. Anybody here have experience or knowledge of this? There is no detailed information on the web site. I'm thinking I'd use one or more of my existing amphibious pedal-vehicles, and improvise something on top of it. But tickets are $140.- a head, which is an awful lot for me. (It's the weekend before Ygmir's Hof Ting.)

FYI, MDF, they have Maker Faires in several different cities now. I'm not sure where on the east coast offhand, but if you get a chance they're great opportunities to see, touch, and learn stuff.

D'oh, sorry to have missed BetaBox and Oscillator (in addition to Marty and Elliot). We tried squeezing as much as we could into a full day, but still missed a lot. Next year, if we're not exhibiting something ourselves I'll have to lobby hard for getting weekend passes. I would have liked to have caught some of the Sunday workshops, plus it doubles my opportunity for funnel cake.

Oops - forgot to add, yes Elliot I'm familiar with Camp Tipsy. That's a weekend thing Chicken John organizes. He tends to be big on radical self reliance, which I think means a website that doesn't have all the info, and you've got to do some research and digging on your own.
