you are correct sir...thats a cobblers machine that will do belts and other thick leather goods...the bobbin below rotates i believe for almost 360 degree turns.
great machine, and if you stick a half horse electric motor on that puppy it will hum thru eight layers of your favorite skin.
good find.

Thanks. I was pretty happy how that crane worked out..............I'm now making a stove and oven, totally from "found materials".

Re: If it's Broke, FIX IT, darn it.
I keep finding caches of concrete buried in my backyard.
I've put some of it in the trash, but I'm keeping a bunch for a sort of riprap patio and a raised garden bed.

I've also found a bunch of ceramic tile pieces that I want to use for some type of mosaic.
Re-purposing a bunch of old bricks that were strewn about, too.
I also found a couple animal corpses and a small rusted hand gun. Those went in the trash.

Have you also found broken bits of pottery, arrows, and human skeletal remains?

That happens more than you would think.
Even here, most of the time it's old family cemeteries.
You should have had that gun checked out.
In my friend's industrial neighborhood, someone asked him if he was interested in a gun they had.
Rusted solid old rifle.
My friend gave him $150 for it.
1800s rifle.
Lot of work, but he already has it looking good and functional.
Silver coin for a front sight.
Have you wondered if all the concrete is a french drain or something useful?
Although.... if you guys recall me having to shoot at a couple of pit bulls sometime back, the owners were just indicted for toxic waste dumping in residential neighborhoods.
Facing 8 years plus, so you never know what will be in a backyard.

The surgically cut femurish bone I convinced myself was not a femur at all ... just a buried dog bone, lol.

I didn't even know where to start with the gun. It looked like it had been buried fairly recently. I didn't want any complications, but I have felt a bit of regret for tossing it so quickly. My imagination had me thinking it was used in some gangster's third felony, and his homies would exact revenge at the address where it was buried! But, what if it was the piece of evidence to help bring closure to some other tragic event? Yes, active imagination!
Most of the concrete appears to be old sidewalk/pathways - potentially the original driveway or something.
Pit bull owning residential toxic waste dumpers otherwise known as meth-cooking tweakers, right? Too judgmental, lol?
Yeah, I had all kinds of bad thoughts about what I would find, so I'm fairly relieved all said. The neighbors said that the house had been vacant for a while and that the previous occupants were never outside when they did live there.
Otherwise, great house! Built in 1930 (so we're 'reusing' that, too) by a socialist real estate developer! How random is that?
Re: If it's Broke, FIX IT, darn it.
Nice house!
Dog found a skull in this neighborhood.
I've found human remains on a wall.
Really mysterious one awhile back in a very public area. Unsolved.
By toxic waste, I mean by the industrial semi truckload.
I followed a truck to the address.
Six people indicted, more to come.
The city is covering up their involvement...so far.
I'll fix that.
Also one guy in jail for stealing a million pounds of pipe from the old ford plant and doing a fortune in damage.
And a company caught removing asbestos and looting a school WITH the knowledge of the school admin, so hundreds of thousands in fines for the school system.
The worst chemical horror stories get buried in cash.
I've heard a lot of those.
Toxic hydrogeology, my exes area.
Subdivisions on waste dumps are a movie cliche for a reason.
