Artsylum needs volunteers!
Get your burn on! Don’t be a sheeple or a spectator, Help create functional art! Help make a difference! Help the environment! We need volunteers, increase your karmic cache! We are building, and setting up some very unique housing/art then supplying it to artist on the playa. Lucky artist will have a very cool comfy foam hexa yurt set up and waiting for them to use during their time on the playa to keep them warm at night. Included is a solar powered freezer, swamp cooler( to keep them cool during the day), and air filters to help keep the dust out. Help us create art, support artist, help the environment and keep the playa from becoming a trailer park! Here is some of the skills we need.
Tech team-technical skills for building facebook page, blogs, tweets, and web pages.
Donation outreach team-monitor for Social media, Corporate donation liaison, donation manager, online fund raiser.
Physical labor team-transportation of housing, procurement of supplies, building housing, assembly team, disassembly team, Storage coordinator.
Artiest outreach team -burning man coordinator, artiest coordinator, event planner.
If you can help out in any way email me back at [email protected]

Re: Artsylum needs volunteers!
I am not trying to be funny, but I am not sure I understand what you are planning to do. Are you going to create housing for an artist/artists? If that's the case will they be just chill spots or does the artist/artists get to live there? And if they can live there, how will they be selected? And how does this "help the environment."? It might help if you could eleborate more on your goal. Good luck.forrest Gump wrote:Get your burn on! Don’t be a sheeple or a spectator, Help create functional art! Help make a difference! Re: Artsylum needs volunteers!
Good questions, Dr. Helix. forrest gump, I'm sure you guys mean well, but based on what you've written it sounds like you're looking to build a really posh turnkey camp for as-yet-unspecified recipients, and are looking to get other people to do the work and (and eventually pay for it). If there's more to it than that, you may want to provide folks with more info.

Plus there was the use of that term that marks the lazy of thought: sheeple.

Geez, he fizzled quick. Didn't mean to scare him off. I really wanted to know what an "artiest coordinator" did. Is that position one above an "artier coordinator"?

Wow so I am wondering why no one is volunteering, Imagine my surprise when I read what people are saying? So…. just so I understand the community is against me giving free housing to financially struggling artiest on the playa so they can focus on their art? I am not getting it are you guys affiliated with the people who rent out the plug and play and trying to undermine Decommodification in the burning man community. As far as getting others to help burning man is all about volunteering I don’t have the finances to hire people to help me and there is no way I can do this alone. Maybe I am just clueless? Please someone explain.

Re: Artsylum needs volunteers!
If I were volunteering with someone, I'd seriously consider not volunteering for anyone who used the word "sheeple" because I think it's a term used by the speaker to feel smug about him/herself in a very cheap and lazy way.
If that person then later got all self-righteous about how no one is volunteering with him/her, I'd feel that my choice was thoroughly vindicated.
I may be a hard case, but in both posts you "accentuate the negative" rather than trying to build up some honest enthusiasm. Look at illydilly's thread about volunteering with Arctica. That's a fun thread. There's none of this "Here is what you must to do be a good burner."

Re: Artsylum needs volunteers!
You may want to consider the strategy of posting public please for help and then effectively abandoning the thread for several months. Speaking personally, the message I believe that sends is that you don't really care about the site's community or the questions that people may have. Coming back with a sense of outrage and accusing people of things may not help. Your best bet whenever asking any community for help is to be attentive to that community. Check in regularly, and try to answer questions people may have without getting defensive or bent out of shape. The nature of public calls for help us that you'll get a range of questions and comments you may not have anticipated or asked for, the way you handle them says a lot about both you and the project.

Well you did post up on it in January, then never followed up on it until May 17th. But I see Trillo already pointed that out. So who'd wanna work for that?forrest Gump wrote:Wow so I am wondering why no one is volunteering, Imagine my surprise when I read what people are saying? Also no one likes to be told half the facts up front.
A quick google search of your Email Address reveals a FB post where you basically "Sell" your Services for Profit even thought you claim other wise. Also using a bit of google foo (using your misspelled "artiest" as a search term) I found this is not the first time you've tried to hustle this bottle of Snake oil.
I thought I'd also let you into the fact that I worked on some of those "Art Crews" that have little time to "set up housing or camps" and I can tell you and everyone else for that matter, There are people filling that role you are trying to fill who are upfront, and operating within the Guidelines and issued Vendors permits from the Org to do what it is you are trying to get done for free so you can profit.
the Irony is the position I held last year on one of the major projects was exactly what you were looking for(and more) , I work real hard and am quite tech Savy. Pretty disappointed in your presentation and am sure many other burners that do major art are too.
We are not a community to be used! and you should know that.

sorry dude I don't have a facebook account and sell what service? how would I profit? I am not looking to hold a position I am just trying to provide free housing on the playa. The word vendors permit again leads me to believe you are a profiteer. Then why didn't you answer my questions? I was the first person to respond to your request. I did not deride you, but wanted clarification. Months later you respond and are all upset because no one jumped on board, when all you had to do was keep the conversation going. Too late for you now. Re: Artsylum needs volunteers!
forrest gump, you're just digging yourself even deeper, and potentially damaging the name of Artsylum within the ePlaya community. If the project is something that you care about, please think carefully before making accusations of others. As both a regular user of the board and the site admin, I know the users you're accusing well enough to be sure that they're not profiteers trying to take out the competition. I'm not sure whether your just lashing out defensively or experiencing above normal levels of paranoia, but it's misplaced.
You posted a public call for help and then you (and your team, assuming Artsylum is more than one person) abandoned it for several months. People had questions that sat for months, and then when you do come back instead of apologizing and responding to the questions, you get defensive and accuse people of sabotaging your efforts. I don't know if that's ever been a successful strategy for earning forgiveness or building trust.

Meh, who cares anymore? This is going to be one of those forgotten projects that will never make it to the playa. I'm actually surprised he responded even once, but it validated what we basically knew anyway.

Sorry if I offended anyone and to everyone upset because I did not monitor my post I understand that a lot of people spend a good part of their day on the internet, I don’t. If you had serious questions about what I was trying to do and I am not responding on the post why not email me rather than rather than trash me behind my back. What I did expect was people interested in helping out would email me I should have made that more clear. I am sorry if I come off as harsh but it is very frustrating to me that I have to waste my time defending myself when I could be doing something positive with my time. That said I have two art projects that I need to finish and a theme camp to put together before the burn.trilobyte wrote:forrest gump, you're just digging yourself even deeper, and potentially damaging the name of Artsylum within the ePlaya community. Next time you start a thread, just come back and visit it. You're the one who wanted help--make it easier for people. Sometimes folks feel safer asking about it here before taking it to email or message--whereupon it becomes more serious and on the spot to say no if they can't help after all.
Good luck!
Good luck!

Will I had a couple of my geekey friends over last night and decided to show them the post so they could share in my outrage. They both read through the post when they finished they both looked at me looked at each other then looked at me again made their thumb and finger in the shape of an L and popped it on their forehead then started laughing. One of them ask me what are you twelve years old “that’s what you are but what am I”. This went on for about 15 minutes. After which they started texting their little geekey friends who wanted to come over long story short it turned into a full blown party the theme of which seemed to be mockery and humiliation at my expense. Complete with songs about losers. I hate those guys I mean I love those but I hate those guys. It was pointed out to me that I should checked on my post at least once a week and I never really answered the serious questions.

Sorry to take so long to answer you question. What I am trying to do is crate a place where artist can live. The selection will be a combination of financial need and how difficult it is to get to the burn. The smaller carbon foot print comes from the fact that we are using hexayurt with solar powered swamp coolers and not trailer with generator and air conditioning.Dr Helix wrote:I am not trying to be funny, but I am not sure I understand what you are planning to do.
Oh my god, it's HUGE!

lucky 420, you camp in a hexayurt, right? How many volunteers do you recruit to help you build it, on an average? 10, 50, ?
it still isn't clear about the number of structures or the number of artists.
one artist. two artists. is it a spelling issue?

The artists are not yet chosen. I would like to make a blog where they their can post previous journeys to burning man and what kind of trials and tribulation they would expect in the coming year. Open it to the community to judge reactions take that and financial need to figure out who would be awarded.Savannah wrote:Is the artist already chosen, or do they audition?
