The accordion has to be a lonely instrument, relegated to oompah bands that play the Oktoberfest circuits and TV shows that resemble an SCTV sketch with no punch line. It was an instrument that was once the sound of the world. The squeeze of it drew images of cultures that were remote to the American experience. It was the sound of countries like France, Italy and Germany. The accordion has been sheltered as national instrument of Deutschland, as well as the Bayou country of Louisiana Parishes. Thankfully the accordion has not been lost in the swell of Americanized Oktoberfest; Brave Combo shows America and the world that it is still a vital instrument.

Good News: None of our subscribers had to use the service.
Bad News: Emergency Polka Camp did not get to strut its stuff.
Other News: We have patches! If you would like one, pm me with your address. A single person gets two patches. A pair gets three. After that, we have no set policy.

Note: These are honest to goodness woven? embroidered? fabric at any rate patches that you can sew to vests, tents, umbilical cords, jackets, hats, and baby blankets. If you are ambitious, or just love GOOP, you can glue them to water bottles, car hoods, cell phones, sidewalks, and prosthetics. Once again, these exist in the real world. And they support Polka values.

Hmmmmm, does goop work well on fabric? I've tried sewing patches on backpacks, etc, and they usually come loose after a while. (I know, poor sewing skills...

Some patches are meant to be ironed on, and you can reinforce by sewing the edges.

I've had good luck by sewing with many small stitches using a clear fishing-line style thread, and then hand-washing or washing on gentle cycle, cold water, inside out, hang dry.

You will probably still have to reinforce now and again.

GOOP might work (I've heard great things) but stitches give you evidence of needed maintenance whereas an adhesive might give less warning until it actually gives way.

I have a few of the iron on patches, but most of the things I'd like to put them on are synthetic. After melting a hole in one of my backpacks I've given up on that... A sewing machine would be ideal, but hard to use on anything except flat fabric I'm thinking.

I Gooped patched a window into the top of a canvas shelter this year.. It stood up very well with the wind beating on it all week...You will need to sew a patch on if it go's in the washing machine..

No machine needed. I never use one for patches.

Hand-sewing will work, but you must be patient and take many small stitches only 1-2 millimeters apart. Get something good on television to watch; that helps.

My mother has a whole philosophy around the idea of tv to iron by. Car chases--so you don't have to pay much attention. TJ Hooker was one of the good ones. In this context, it's otherwise pretty silly.
