At the temple burn last year people were abandoning all sorts of shit when they left, from sunglasses to empty beer cans, glow sticks, cups and cig butts. I picked up as much as I could carry and stuff into a friend's backpack. It didn't even begin to touch the mess.
I'm not a slut, I'm good time floozy!

The google map image showed the shift for quite a while. You could see the map lines drawn from 2011's map over the 2012 image. Basically last years man was almost in 2011's center camp (or was it the other way around?). The city turned ever so slightly as well.
I left on Tuesday... Saw many 'empty' campsites that were marked by a pile of trash.

The worst I have seen. Is along the hwy leaving.. Driver would stop on the top of hills and dump there crap.. Not only throw it out but leave to bags open in the wind.. One year I stopped and picked up six bags.. Some of it got away from me in the wind...

Somebody bought a bike on the way to the event, unpacked and assembled it on the playa, and left all of the packaging including the instructions, owners manual, etc. blowing in the wind.
Though easy to clean up, it just showed total disrespect for the LNT policy and BM in general.

Hung around a couple of days in 2010 helping with cleanup.
One of the crew told me about finding a present a camp left behind. A mostly full 45 gallon drum of feces.

To me it has to be cigarette butts.
In 2010 I found ten cents near the mant farm. Right after a very brief dust storm, just lying in the playa dust was a dime. What are the odds of that?
ps. I kept it

Actually, pressurized tennis balls made of India rubber were invented by Charles Goodyear in the mid-to-late 1800s. Let's not give God too much credit here

Hahaha!
I don't carry a tennis ball personally. Instead I carry a car cup-holder ashtray with a lid. Why waste money on modifying something when a product already exists that does the job well.

Goodyear also invented the vulcanization process used in making Goodyear tires. But he never benefited from his invention and was in fact poverty striken. Got to make sure those patents are in order I guess is the moral of the story.

oh, the aroma was rich, and thick.
just off playa, a giant garlic truck filled with gerlach garlic that had overturned after whacking an RV....that had quite a smell too.

Cement bags left behind by someone. (Used as sandbags for holding something down?)
One had a hole in it. Took a couple shovel-fulls of playa cement mixture home. Since the hole was under the bag I assume it did not get spread much by the wind.

If we all brought two or three bags and carefully spread it during the event, our surface problems would be over...

Agreed.
Re: The Moopiest Thing I've Ever Seen On The Playa Is...
ok it might not have been the moopiest, or of any real impact at all... but it happened and i think its technically "moop"
but there once was a guy walking away from one of the bigger burns ..and he was walking and peeing at the same time.
in a way its sort of a tale of anti-moop.
because, at least it wasnt a puddle. (like all those numerous wet spots you see as the sun comes up on sunday morning after the man burn)
but..
yeah.

Re: The Moopiest Thing I've Ever Seen On The Playa Is...
Wow, the hair clumps - gross! The worst moop I've seen so far was my birgin year. Our neighbors showed up Tuesday afternoon in their rented cars to their fully stocked pair of RV's full of yummy food, halloween costumes, and a bunch of other New Year's junk you can find at Party City. They put out the artificial grass turf, hung string of decorative paper (that obviously didn't last one day) and by day two there was glitter everywhere. They were a really nice group that we got along with, but were simply there to party. By Sunday they were all gone, but left a four foot tall pile of trash bags along with all the moop on the ground. Late Monday afternoon, two guys came and drove off in the RV's leaving all the trash behind. We spent hours mooping the area, but there was no way we could take their pile of trash in our Corolla. It was infuriating to say the least.

So is horseshit, but its still considered rude to leave a pile of it on your neighbor's lawn.
If the BLM considers hair to be trash in their post event survey, then that's what it is. Also, not sure that the playa has a ton of microbial life that would help break down organic refuse.

BRC doesn't sit on earth. It sits on playa. Hair can blow to the earth that surrounds the playa, where there's an established balance.
The playa has aquatic micro-fauna, mainly crustaceans, some of which migratory birds are dependent on. Organics can mess with them and their nutrients.

Basically, though in this case it would also be "illegal" in that hair is considered trash and whether the event receives a permit is based largely on passing the post event inspection.
