Re: Rainbow Family at Burning Man?
yeah, ok. I'm just gonna trow in the towel and call this one. You fuckos might be right there are very few Rainbows worth trying to save from the gaping mawl of hippiydumb. even if I did convert them to burn they'd just end up like Y'all, jaded and snarky. Why must I feel so compelled to save the underdog? why am I a third partyist? did someone dose me?

yeah.
Well one thing I can say for Rainbow; Those guys have the Decomodification thing down pat. Not one thing for Sale over there. no money = no market. Although I did hear that Abercrombie & Fitch were going to be giving away free merchandiser to the first 1000 people there.

Re: Rainbow Family at Burning Man?
i invited a rainbow person to ride up to burning man with my pals and i once.. and invited them to stay and camp with us..
he made a stop at the local library to find the nearest place to get food... went to the food place and returned with a b0x of food of random junk like from the food bank
that was his contribution, well, outside of just being around and sharin his self.
now that was a hippie.
fuckin hippies...
he even had a guitar.
it was my first face to face encounter with one of them rainbows..
the german guy we also had in camp that year was much more annoying.

That's what we call a drainbow, and yup there are lots of them. And they really do suck. Not straight forward, not really on top of shit, but they act helpful and know a few songs.lemur wrote:i invited a rainbow person to ride up to burning man with my pals and i once.. and invited them to stay and camp with us..

At the gathering I figure they are about 20-35% of the population, the rest is made up of a combination of rual commune back to the land types they make up the bulk of the "Return Every Year" type, they make up the bulk of the gathering and are a lot of fun, make nice things, stay for clean up. there's a LARGE tourist Element; only been once thinks it's shit never return they talk about all the bad they saw. A large number of Vets, and street kids and hobo-drunks. only a very few are responsible for the bad impression and crap ever associated with Rainbow gatherings. and they are a sad group of folks for sure.
I see all the positive going into it and all the negative coming out and it's a null game, one reason I think putting energy into it is still worth it, there are people there that can teach me a thing or two, and there are people there that begin to see the way out of their misery lies within. a lot of the Street kids don't really come into human contact, what passes between them is based on a code of anamilistic needs. they bite the hand that feeds them and shit in their own nest. but they can receive kindness from some one they see as their equal, it doesn't violate their code. they will take from charity with impunity like finding something on the ground, they don't develop connection with comunitys because they see it as evil. they need human contact because they are on the brink of much worse.
IDK?

I'm wondering if I was the first person to bring a high powered rifle to a rainbow gathering?
They had a real problem with the canned dolphin and manatee though.

Re: Rainbow Family at Burning Man?
Gave a ride to a Rainbow fella once on a long stretch between Oregon and Reno. Very pleasant guy, good riding companion. Good stories, etc. I insisted on buying him lunch before parting ways, but that was my idea not his. So there's an anecdote in proof of exactly nothing.
