Hey, DaB... that really counts as an item a day...
and you must realize it takes lots of days to increase acceptably.

Monkey hut looks great Geospyder!!! I have a few "need" items that I've been scouring craigslist for. No luck so far, but I'm planning on going garage saling this Saturday, so hopefully I'll get the last of these plus some "want" items

I love seeing all the monkey huts! We are working on putting a "back room" onto our MH to house our shower area. (more for a little bit of wind protection than privacy...) Hoping to set that up this weekend to test.
I spent my morning altering some tutus from last year and planning what to buy to make one more. I've got one more dress I need to alter as well, but if it doesn't come out right, I've got to hit the Good Will and find something snazzy for burn night.

I'm still doing the unglamorous stuff, working on the truck and the flatbed trailer, all that stuff it takes to be as sure as possible that 11 tons of stuff makes it over all the mountains between here and there. And getting set to yank out the Land Yacht engine and take care of it's geyser of an oil leak.
I wish I had time for more artsy stuff but I'm the logistics guy.

Sold an electric motor to a hobbiest and asked about his project.
Guess what topic came up?
Turns out he's never been to the burn, but his niece is DPW and is prepping to head out to build our city!

Made some simple bead pendants. I made hundreds during my cancer year, still have tons of beads sitting g around, may as well use them up.
Re: One Item for BM a Day
Not exactly an item for Burning Man, but close!
Just purchased two (tier 1) tickets for the AZ Decompression...
It'll be in a different place than the last two I went to, even closer to home. It's practically in TinkerMom's back yard!!

Recently got a rebate check from menards so I went there today and spent it on pvc pipe for a monkey hut.
Now if it would quit raining long enough to be able to be outside to build it that would be nice!!!
Cherryblossum, a shower room off the back of your monkey hut?! Very intriguing!
Any pictures by chance?

Bought a new tent today. Don't have a ton of faith in it but its got a Three year "no matter what happens" warranty.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Was going to drain the oil from the Land Yacht's Olds Quad 4 engine... put wrench on drain plug... instead of unscrewing, it tore a big chunk of the oil pan out with it.
I can't weld aluminum, so I figured I'd take it to a fab shop for repair; removed it, cleaned it up, found out it was full of cracks and breaks that someone had JB-Welded and glued up. It was the worst oil pan I'd ever seen in use! And the plug didn't unscrew because it had been glued right over. So today I bought the nearest available replacement... in Portland, Oregon. Called a Burner friend of mine in Portland to grab it for me.
Road trip next weekend!

My uncle bought a Bug once that the Heads were JB welded to the case and only 2 of 4 head bolts. I have no clue how that thing drove.Captain Goddammit wrote:Was going to drain the oil from the Land Yacht's Olds Quad 4 engine... put wrench on drain plug... instead of unscrewing, it tore a big chunk of the oil pan out with it.

Whats the possibility that the pan was your leak and you don't need to pull the motor anymore? Or are you at the point that it needs a once over anyways?

I found the major leak, but I bet that oil pan was another! I don't mind it being all Frankensteined together if it's properly welded, but this thing is a major failure waiting to happen! I'm so glad it didn't fail on any prior playa trips! I never noticed it before because it looks OK on the outside but inside is full of horrors.
Hell or high water, I will have this thing running again!

Ah, I remember reading about you knowing what the leak was, but when I went back to try and find it, it was hiding. I love how some of those old engines can leak so much and just keep on chugging along.Captain Goddammit wrote:I found the major leak, but I bet that oil pan was another! Nice! Free is best, That was my biggest problem with getting a tent, being 6'+ finding one I could stand up in is impossible short of 10 man. Finally settled for a 6 man that is an inch shorter than me.knowmad wrote:I was given a Coleman "American Heritage II" tent today. Sweet tent! The price was perfect.
I'm having trouble finding a tent I can afford that is tall enough to stand up in as well. I'll probably just go with the small Walmart tent I used last year and deal with it.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
My first year, I built a 10X10 shelter and hung a hammock.. Run a line over the center of the hammock and draped a (cotton) painter tarp over down to the ground making a pup tent style bed cover.. It was mean windy year. But I was snug as a bug with the sliding tent cover.. Great for day sleeping..TT120 wrote:Sweet tent! The price was perfect.

I loaned my trailer to a neighbor so that he could move his tractor. It came back nice and clean. It gave me a chance to sort out the stuff I had cleared off the trailer before use.
Yesterday, I got a couple of canvas drop cloths to use as floor runner and bedroll cover. a small travel hammock and a footless onesie to sleep in.

good thing it doesn't have to float.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Updated my Burning Man Supplies list last night. Compared it to what I had in the boxes. Only hard item I need is lights for the Monkey Hut. Found a string of 100 white led battery operated lights (34 feet in length) for $20 on Amazon. That along with two ten foot strings of multicolored led lights and one black light should suffice. Loved the flagrance that came out of the boxes when I removed the lids
