I am the mother of three young men, two of them ( between them) have tourette syndrome, obsessive compulsive disorder, autism and bipolar, and severe attention deficit. The third recieved the gift of good health.
The word retard sounds very ignorant to me. Ignorant in..lack of understanding. Before I had my children I had no idea either.
Families such as mine are so thankful for empathy and compassion in our world. Unfortunantly that is not often the way it pans out.I believe humor, and education are the best way to teach people about differences. Our favorite movie is 'What about Bob " great tourette scenes ( I need to learn how to insert a clip from the movie). Anyway, I thought I would share what a large part of my life has been about. Humility is one of the lessons I needed to learn, my children have taught me alot.

Yes, I have heard they do that, which why I have avoided having any.

I can't even imagine. It must be amazing to do whatever you want. I will be there one day soon I hope. Although being married changes your options too. Part of the giving and getting. I guess in the end it's so cool that we end up at burning man, and sometimes wonderful stuff happens.
Burning man ( in 2 burns ) gave me a new beginning. In the end I recieved something there that I cannot quite describe. I finally found my tribe!!! Thank you Burning Man Community... you are so freakin awesome!!
When I was Taking about humility I was referring to my kid screaming and yelling in public , and learning not to take the comments of others personal. I just know there has got to be an art project in here somewhere!
Anyway, I've said my piece.

I have no filter. Think what you want, but my love of Language, is only a partial indicator of my true personality. I just don't care to protect most people's delicate sensibilities. I've found, through experience that MOST eplayans are nothing like their screen selves. Some, unfortunately, are. If words upset you, then life has a big suprise in store for you!

I was taught to beware of labels. Better to read the table of contents and find out what's really inside.

i agree.
words are just words...sticks and stones do damage, but if you give a word power and meaning, it is from within.
it's not the word, but how you react to it.
i had a discussion about this last night, as i too, often use words that are "offensive"....after watching Frank Zappa on crossfire , i more firmly believe in "It's just words"...
viewtopic.php?f=325&t=63585
use them, play with them, make fun of them, throw them around, but don't ever let them hurt you.
i guess this all leads to the question of censorship, when to be an asshole, when not to be, community standards etc etc, what is acceptable and what is not.
freedom of speech is a two sided sword, but i dont really believe in the concept of 'hate speech"...it's really all based on perception and point of view anyway.

Meh. If i have combat boots on and you have bare feet, then it's pretty lame of me to say "hey you should wear steel-toed boots" unless I only know how to be an asshole.
But I have other choices, I can avoid stepping on your toes. Kindness doesn't take much work.

Re: Take The Tardis.
One thing Danielle can't seem to wrap her head around...is how my friends and I would call each other "cunts", in a casual manner. The answer is, we showed each other our friendship through action, NOT words! Plus, spicy language feels good on the tongue. As long as someone is upset by words or speech, I find it irresistible to poke at them. Same with art!
