seeking Fire Folks in Sonoma County

Post by regynalonglank » Tue Sep 21, 2004 3:07 pm

howdy, i am in sebastopol and would love to learn more about fire dancing. i know there are folks in SF teaching it, but if i could find someone up here in SoCo that would rawk.

poi spinning, harness work interest me, but any fire arts would be cool. i am a long time dancer with much experience, and i learn fast.

any leads appreciated!

thanks...

fire dance

Post by stefan goya » Fri Oct 01, 2004 5:23 pm

hi- i took video in 2003 that was mostly fire dance. after watching and editing my three hours down to 40 and 80 minutes i appeciated moves that went right by me the first time or two. i believe ive got some good dancing if watching is of any interest to you. have shown the video once to a small group that liked it - but only one woman really liked all the dancing. one of my male friends told me they were clumbsy amatuers! i have discovered that there is a wide range of appreciation - i am also a musician and know you cant please everyone. sincerely, stefan ps- i met two firespinnerdancers this year but they are not local

I would love to see it! saw the Mutaytors this weekend in SF and tried to get a feel for what they are doing with the poi...i think i am starting to get it. talked to several of the spinners and got some advice on how to start learning on my own without the fire at first...i think i need to do more work on my own before i will need others but a video would be very helpful. possible to get a copy?

Hey Tisha, so glad you asked!

I am actually going to be singing there with my friend Jess, he just had his debut cd come out, and we are doing some shows to promote his disk. i am singing backups and harmonies - its a fun show. and i am so excited to get to be a part of the decom up here. i think it's going to be a blast.

I know you're like forever away from here or something, but it would be so fun if you could come!

I just got my first practice poi set yesterday, i ordered it from home of poi in new zealand. man, that is so dang fun. i've already learned how to do the crossover move, and the butterfly thing, and i am having a total blast. of course if it had been fire poi my hair would be gone by now, but i am having so much fun i wouldn't care if i was bald :)

last night at samba class i busted them out, and one of the girls who is a samba maniac also knew how to spin poi, she's from brazil, anyways, she started spinning and sambaing at the same time, and as i suspected, it is hot hot hot. i mean why not? hot + hot should = hot!!!

burn baby burn!

thanks for thinking of me :)
