First timer in need of a camp
This is my first time attending Burning Man, and I am beyond excited. However I have not secured a camp group. I'm traveling solo from San Francisco. Anyone know how to find camps who are looking for others to join them?

Hi JHarris!
Try the 2013 Theme Camps forum. Pick a camp that seems like a good match for your personality and write them an email or send a PM about why you like them, and what skills you have.

See also the thread in that forum re: "How to Join a Theme Camp". Lots of useful info. Choose carefully, so that any work you end up doing in support of the camp and their mission is still fun and worth doing. Remember that camping with a theme camp is optional. You can camp "alone" and have neighbors within hours.
As a San Franciscan, you're in Burner Central. Join some of these mailing lists and seek them out on FB as well.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Have themecamp in need of aspiring travelers. No drugs/no drama/14 years on playa. You don't really need a camp, but if you want an instant family and a place to call home, let us know and we'll continue this conversation.

Anyone still looking to form a camp or newbies? Driving up from San Francisco and can carpool or meet up along the way.

Re: First timer in need of a camp
I hadn't seen this here until now - I'm giving this a nudge to the 2013 camps board since that's a better fit.
The best advice I can give is to start being radically self reliant and take some initiative. Look around, do a tiny bit of reading or research, there are tons of camps out there. Many posting on the theme camps board, and many more on the recently published partial list of registered camps. Find something that interests you, and reach out to them and ask if they're taking new members. See the How To Join A Camp thread, and you may also care to read the How To Start A Camp thread (you don't need to read every post, just the first few contain a ton of great useful info).
Show your future campmates your awesomeness by taking some initiative. Don't take this the wrong way, but nothing says 'lacks intiative' like a seeking camp thread. Lots and lots of camps are out there, and many of them are not only open to new members, but are happy to take new folks under their wing. Get out there and find something (or create your own if you like), there's still plenty of time to connect with an awesome bunch of people for the adventure. Good luck!
