One thing to do today
One thing today is...
Cut poles (from laurel) for cargo cult style shower stall.. Four branches bent over the top With five foot canvas wall.
I seem to get more done if I set out to do just one thing......

Re: One thing to do today
But what happens is something holds up the project (current example, I have to wait til this weekend to get engine parts from Portland for the Land Yacht repair I started last weekend) so in the mean time, I start on something else.
Now I have two projects going... something beyond my control delays work on the second project, so I work on a third...

Stake out the green laurel poles.. Bend them into a shape of four corners up and X across the top.. Bout seven feet tall.. It's hot out for the next week or more.. That should dry enough to hold the shape.. Take picture with phone..

Bad design. Back to the drawing board.. Four laurel post to 6 foot high.. Then bent sapling over the top.. But that's the one thing to do tomorrow. Right now it 89 degrees and wet..unjonharley wrote:Stake out the green laurel poles.. Bend them into a shape of four corners up and X across the top.. Bout seven feet tall.. Put up shade so the cactus don't get sunburned.
This was a good deal.
http://www.acehardware.com/product/inde ... =843221135
It's only 50% shade, but it's finished size is 20'x20' with grommets every 12"s!
The whole thing weighs about 5 pounds.
The way the weave runs, if you stacked 2 and layed the top one so the weave crosses the bottom weave you would get about 80% shade for $70 vs $250 for aluminet!

To do:
Book entertainment for The Lost Penguin Cafe....
Is it just me, or there a lot of DJs out there ? As in, more DJs than non DJs ? As in, I would have a harder time finding non-DJs ? An embarrassment of riches...

Nail on the head. Well, maybe not the "embarrassment of riches" part. Apparently, a plethora of djs does not mean that there are enough good ones to go around.marcgorcey wrote:To do:

Re: One thing to do today
I'm going to nudge this thread over to the Q&A board. While the original post was about camping, the subsequent conversation has drifted delightfully to cover a whole range of tasks.
As for music, the reason there are so many is because almost everyone has a love of music, and most of us want to share that love and passsion for music with our friends and loved ones. We play songs and favorite records, we make mixtapes for ourselves and others. And then in the last decade and change, technology has significantly lowered the bar - anyone with an mp3 player or a cell phone can program a playlist and claim to be a DJ at some level. That doesn't bother me one bit, what does get me is when someone tosses around the moniker like it should entitle them special benefits or favor.
To respond to the thread's question though, I don't know if I can boil it down to one single thing. I'm usually juggling several things at once, and several are on the 'must happen today' heap. I do try to prioritize though, with the stuff on my drop dead list (even if it kills me, I'm getting this done) up top and then other things shifting and juggling as necessary. One of my main things today is already done, get to the farmer's market with the girlfriend. She needed to get more honey for her coffee, as well as tomatoes and other goodies she liked. And I wanted to get some breads and cheeses for our camp meeting tomorrow. Main thing number two happens in a few minutes, we've got to take one of our cats to the vet for another round of bloodwork. Then main thing number three is to finish up a couple things in prep for our camp meeting tomorrow.

Yes. The bathrooms are usually between d- and e- streets on the half hours. There are others further out, and banks by the sound camps and banks on the inner playa near the man and the temple.

Well, they were on the website for ACE hardwear, but had to be shipped to my store.
They do that for free, then you just pick them up at your local store.
I don't think they'll work well on the playa unless they're doubled.

If you're traveling long distances and booking rooms do a periodic rate request on each stay particularly as the date nears. I have saved more money I can count over the years by canceling reservations and re-booking with all the particulars identical sans price. I have also on more than one occasion used the very facilities wi-fi to do it. Just make sure you book refundable reservations and be aware of the cut off for cancellations.
I set a recurring task in my email to remind me (along with the single word TICKET! twice a day in the last week leading up to my departure).
