I was scared to death my first time in BRC. Strangely enough, I started meeting people while shopping in Reno prior to getting there. I met so many people, that I actually entered the city knowing quite a few people already. The week only got better from there.
Prepare as much as you can, but keep a level head and expect a life changing week ahead of you.

Oh, and welcome to eplaya.

Hi funguyeyzes!

Since the 2013 Survival Guide isn't up yet (but will be soon) and the 2012 version won't load right now because of that, you might like DrawingaBlank's guide for virgins.

http://grasshoppernight.org/burnythings.php

Spend some time reading and lurking here on ePlaya. If you want to know if a topic has been covered here before (and almost everything has been) pair a google keyword with the word eplaya. Like Googling:

goggles eplaya
sunscreen eplaya
food eplaya

Try to find the answers yourself before you ask other people--it'll give you confidence, not to mention giving other people a little bit of confidence in you.

Being a little nervous is normal. Use that fear to make yourself very well-informed!

Edited to add: the new 2013 Survival Guide is up! Click Survival Guide below.

My friends wimped out on me for three years. Then I said screw it and went solo. That was 14 years ago. Haven't missed a year since.

I'm now camp mom for a well established theme camp. We're a no drugs/no drama camp - The Black Rock Fun Jet camp. Always fun. Slightly twisted.

If you're interested in becoming part of a theme camp, let us know. We have an amazing set up and welcome self-motivated newbies.

Hi, my name is Corey. I am looking for some other solo new burners to see if they would like to camp together. Can be hard to find a camp that you can join. If you would like to possibly camp together or want to know more about me just message me back.

Coreysm! Whether you know it or not, you are joining in one of eplaya's great traditions! We've had Stag Camp, Orphan Camp and others starting from a post much like yours and going on for years as loose amalgamations of friends pooling resources for a low pressure camp. I wish you success! And I suggest that others join in. I think this must be one of the best ways to manage the autonomy v. shared resources thing.
Good Luck!
