Tatonka, I'm way too tired. I read your sig line as winners never quilt. and quilters never win.

You guys really know how to 'do' a bike. I fuss with stuff all year and leave my bike bare.

Tattoo goddess. Nice work. You have a great collection of B&W stripes. My pile is growing. I'll probably wear a lot of stripe this year.

TT120, You can catch ravers and sparkle pony's during the day with mardi gras beads and anything made from pony beads. Don't make the same mistake that a lot of fishermen make. Build your pen first.

Thats a good idea Ratty. I usually just catch and release but there were a few that I wanted to keep last year. I'll work on a pen for this year. :D

Nice work, TattoGoddess! Are the striped skirt and coat now attached, like a frock coat?

I wear a lot of black in normal life, but on the playa I'm in stealth-goth mode, and wear a lot of white, cream and pink, so I can sit on the ground or roll in the dust.

I find it distressing when black clothes get dusty instantly. Unless they're vinyl pants, which wipe clean so nicely.

Black is the new black...... I don't mind if it's dusty.

In the continuing saga of breaking the news to my better half that I'd like to do BM again this year and before anyone asks..... she would never leave her menagerie of 3 cats, 4 feral cats in the process of being socialized in a spare bedroom, and 3 feral kittens to whom I've surrendered my garage to (our idiotic neighbor is responsible for the plethora of felines, we've captured and spayed/neutered 10 and think we have the situation stabilized) and my Buddy boy (canine) for any length of time:

Back story: I so suavely eased into the subject by suggesting a day or two ago that she ride as far as Denver to visit our daughter while I go on to BM in August. She didn't blink and responded equally casually "we'll see" without throwing a shoe, a fit, inanimate objects or a cat.

Fast forward to today:

Me: (in my best nonchalant tone) I see one way flights from Denver to NY are only $300 or so.

Her: (matter of factly) I really don't like to be in the car for long periods of time.

Me: I know we haven't seen her for a year and a half and just thought this would be a good opportunity as I'll be in the neighborhood (read same state).

Her: We'll see.

Much later in the day:

Me: So, Hon, how do you feel about me doing BM again?

Her: Go for it if that's what you want to do.

Me: Well it obviously depends on the situation with Bud (he's a very sick boy but one would never know it)/

Her: Obviously.

Me: Have I told you you're the best lately?

Her: No need, I know.

Me: I'm curious, you didn't miss a beat when I mentioned BM, What's up with that?

Her: I know you were thinking about it since Feb,

Me: (nonplussed) Wha.... huh?

She: I saw it hit the bank when you bought the ticket.

Me: (sheepishly) Oh...

I think I'm just weird. If I (personally) wear black, I feel like I'm fighting the dust. If I wear dust-colored, I feel like I am the dust.

Have you ever just really . . . LOOKED at your hand, man?

Last year my camera bit the dust - or I should say the dust bit the camera - a fatal bite. It was beyond cleaning. No way was I going to bring my good camera to Burning Man. I wanted a cheapo camera strictly for Buring Man. My criteria was that it be digital and use AA batteries. Found one today on Amazon for $39 - a Kodak Easyshare C1505 12 MP Digital Camera with 5x Digital Zoom. If it survives a year or two I'll be very happy.

I've always been kinda surprised how little dust my dark green kilt shows. The black leather chaps show dust within 10 seconds of being worn.
The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

Everyone makes such a fuss about cleaning afterwards, (like playa dust is actually acid). There are a lot of my things that have never been cleaned. They aren't dirty, just covered with playa. Some shoes and boots, one tent, tarps, ropes, bags that hold stakes, ice chests, table, folding chair, umbrellas etc.... Nothing has disintegrated yet. First burn 2008.

I love the smell of hot playa in the morning. :P

About a week ago I went to BM headquarters to help sew and the material was parachutes left on the playa. It smelled great! Of course the noobes didn't get it, (Yet). I keep going over to the pile and fluffing fabric to be immersed.

I have one like this, but it's about 6 yrs old. This is it's 3rd burn.
The battery door is super glued together and I keep a rubber band around it.
And sometimes the lens won't open, I open it with my finger.
It's beat all to hell, and has been all over the country with me.
But takes a lickin, and keeps on takin pics.

I still take some of my good cameras to the burn, I take them out on the mild days,
but I keep grabbing this one.
