WTF with image search and burning man?
Sometimes Google image search can find things faster or that text search cannot.
I did a search for "burning man" shower to find designs. What I get across the top are image subcategories of "water truck" "women" and "girls". That's the WTF. Bing has a related search sidebar, beginning with Cacophony Society, Rainbow Gathering...actually a little more enlightened.
Are search engines the dirty old men camps that set up free showers for young females? Let's hope not. Or maybe that is what the majority of their searchers are telling them? Sad.
At least for photos on burningman.com, better tagging could help.

It's more likely to be the latter - that the search engine algorithms are a painful reflection of society. When serving up results pages, they factor in how popular the page/image is, and also what others searching for same or similar terms clicked on. As habits change with the internet-surfing public, so will the results.

Isn't Google one of those commercial sites that learns your habits?
I searched and got nuns, kittens and a burning man shower - by being even more of a smart arse (yes I mean that r to be there) I searched for burning man shower design and got...
And I don't want no lip back from you 3 neither... just because you've all been since the dawn of time does not stop me being a better burner...so it's not page 2 - forgeddaboudit

If so, their algorithms are waaaaaaaaaaay off. I'm also getting "water truck" "women" and "girls", and I can assure you the latter two are not in my normal search terms...Turtleburp wrote:Isn't Google one of those commercial sites that learns your habits?

OR they are correct and this is some long term and sinister ploy on your part to cozy up to unsuspecting girls... can we merge this with the alternate reality thread now?Eric wrote:If so, their algorithms are waaaaaaaaaaay off. As far as pictures of BM are concerned, I'm not surprised women/girls are at the top, given the videos and pictures. Nobody wants to see pictures of dirty hippies or evap ponds. Not sure about the water trucks though. Maybe those pictures of dirty hippies getting covered in grey water has raised that search term to the top.

I searched and got the Red-cross, a picture of a puppy and information for a blood drive in my area - must be history based.

Burning Man Shower? That does sound like jumping into the spray of a water truck wetting the road, yippee!
