SHOWER ATTACHED TO MONKEY HUT?
SHOWER ATTACHED TO MONKEY HUT?
Anyone have luck building a evap pond and enclosed shower attached to the back side of a monkey hut? Today's project and thought I would ask the experts. Just need something simple for a one person shower. I bought a collapsible sun shower setup I thought I would put up and take down when it is calm outside but open to ideas from the pros. Thx guys!

Re: SHOWER ATTACHED TO MONKEY HUT?
There are many shower threads and gre/ay water, evapotron and image search can help.
In my experience it is nice to have a windbreak for the shower. It can feel uncomfortably cold to be wet in even a slight breeze if the sun is not overhead. Can be anything, shower curtain, tarp, fabric, that is folded out of the way/wind when not in use. Needs to supported top and bottom or a slight wind will wrap it around your legs.
The shower usually makes some splashing and the evap pond can leak, so wouldn't put it next to the monkey hut. Suggest putting it next to the RV, opposite the door side, you can hang the bag from the RV. You can also add a longer shower hose. The evap pond, or better, evapotron, needs to be in the sun, unshaded, but not where random passers by or neighbors will abuse it.. So bring a compass when orienting your camp.
Freestanding, minimal and inexpensive, I would do a tall tepee frame with a pulley to raise the camp shower and rig the shower curtain around the 3 sides to shoulder height. Some camps build more designery showers.

Re: SHOWER ATTACHED TO MONKEY HUT?
I have never understood why a messy, pain-in-the-ass evap pond was better than my extremely effective and simple system. I bring surplus 33-gallon plastic barrels and just dump my greywater into them. We haul our water in, why can't we haul it out? Then I simply pour it out at the first RV dump I see.
If I were using an outside shower I think I'd get a house-style shower pan and elevate it high enough to get a 5-gallon bucket under the drain, then dump the water into a barrel.
Does your Airstream have an inside shower? I use my camper's shower and use this method of dumping my greywater.
If I were doing an outside shower, I'd build it's own monkey hut, or some sort of real structure. Some Seeing Eye is right about how it sucks being all wet outside, unless you always shower in the middle of the day when it's hot. My old camp had a 10x20 Costco carport divided 1/3 shower, 2/3 dressing room... it was very luxurious!

Great info. I knew I would find some cool ideas and tips from guys. No, unfortunately my airstream doesn't have a shower. True about bringing back the water. Makes sense. I do like the idea on hanging the solar water bag from the rv.

Srsly, tho...you don't have to go to a lot of trouble for a shower set up...the sun showers work great...I do not mind the breeze at all...I mean, it's 100 frickin' degrees! I stand in a plastic bin to collect the water and pour the grey water in an empty gallon jug for the trip home or nearest dump site..
And if you want to take it a step farther, just use a garden sprayer...you'll get just as clean and refreshed and use about less than a quart.

Simplicity is good, but it's so nice to have an opulent shower on the playa! That's one of the finest luxuries in Black Rock City.

Re: SHOWER ATTACHED TO MONKEY HUT?
We had a shower near one monkeyhut we used for sleeping. I never bothered using it; others in the camp did. Still, our main concern was that it could spray into the monkeyhut, mostly because two years prior some idiot didn't properly seal up the faucet after he/she was done and it had leaked all over the place over the night (not good for our MOOP map rating either
) . We propped up the edges of the tarp we had the tents on top of just in case, but in the end it was far enough away that it didn't matter, and there were no shower leaks.

Well, did a 180 as far as the shower. I have a vintage airstream so going to forget the outside shower and use the sun shower water holder inside by putting it in the cabinet above the sink, let it hang down, wash up in sink then let it run into portable grey water tank or 5 gal bucket. Take water out when I leave. Simple. It will do the job and keep it simple without a evap pond. Too many gross stories I have heard about them. Ick....

And don't forget the Human Carcass Wash! Check it out...no one there gives a rat's ass if you're naked, but I've seen a few ladies do it in bikinis...
