One Item for BMan 2013 a Day
Re: One Item for BM a Day
100 AAA and 100 AA batteries came in the mail. They were a Woot! the other day. $14 a pack for alkalines that tested well and got good reviews (AC Delco brand). Between all the blink and playa gifting, I'm probably good on batteries for a couplea three years. In my day to day I almost exclusively use rechargeables but there's just way too much light up stuff to go that route at Burning Man.
I should make a list of what little coin batteries I need for my stuff and pick up a bulk pile of them too. I didn't think of that last year and the long story short version of that is that no matter how cool the green Spiderman glasses are, if I wear them on blink I end up like the lady scientist in The Andromeda Strain. And don't get me started on laying in the tent and then not laying but still in the tent squinting through the dust cloud sitting up created trying to figure out where that last flashing light is coming from in the pile of dust and clothes strewn about.

New hydration packs for us both today at Costco. We didn't really need new ones, but ours have never been 100% satisfactory. Oh, we put the good Camelbak bladders in, but the old outer packs were meh. These have all sorts of pockets and zippery goodness. Local company too, and very well priced, half what they are online. I even got a small one for neighborhood walkabouts.
Plus some flats of fizzy stuff and a small selection of hydration drinkys.

New tires for the Land Yacht. Not sure if it's just age or the corrosive playa is hard on rubber, but the sidewalls were so cracked up I was afraid to inflate them to operating pressure. Gonna mount them up myself, one of my buddies has a tire machine. Could you imagine driving it into Les Schwab to have them do it?

Based on the suggestions I've read here, I joined Good Sam today and signed up for their roadside assistance package. I went with the basic, would either of the upgraded ones have been better?

I like the long distance towing upgrade that triple A has in their premium offering.
today I found my glasses under the baseboard heater. hello middle distance, haven't missed you much. Long distance and close... you are still out of range.

I have the AAA towing also for car and RV. Wouldn't leave home without it. Best to compare each and see what fits best for you.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Built my monkey hut on Sunday. I clearly didn't give enough forethought to how big 14'x24' really is.
Building it in my backyard was good practice and I now know to add a step ladder to my list of items to bring.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
A stepladder is a great idea. I didn't think of that last year, but was able to improvise and stand on the cardboard boxes housing my 2.5 gallon water jugs. It actually worked well enough I'll be doing it again, but a stepladder would probably be easier/safer!oly14 wrote:Built my monkey hut on Sunday. Wait, I'm all confused by the coy passive voice construction. Re: One Item for BM a Day
Picked up a cheap used 4 person tent on CL today. It's tall enough that I can stand up in it and the best part is the only mesh is the door and windows which have covers. The pole setup is a little dodgy but I'm pretty sure I can guy it down in a few places and it should be fine inside my monkey hut.

I could also just "hang" it inside my hut with bungee cords.

So the Land Yacht now has fresh tires, new brakes, it's running great, no oil leak, and the rear suspension is beefed up so it's not bottomed out all the time. Whew.
Now finally it's time for the more glamourous part, new paint, new lighting, new interior.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Re-measured my camo nets today so now I'm covered in playa. Only 9 more weeks to the day till I'm on the road!
The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Aside from being moopy (just say no to broken glass on the playa), it's a waste of a perfectly good bottle of bubbly for a vehicle that's been going to the playa for many years. I say celebrate her triumphant return to the playa in style with drinks of choice. Of course, that's after the new paint, new lighting, new interior
After today's work session I stopped at the local big box warehouse joint and picked up 8 more flip-top bins, to store ziggurat parts. Once I got 'em home I dug out the stencils and sprayed 'em with our camp's symbols. Then juggled a few things with our storage space in prep for tomorrow's work.
