Mmm waffles. I was out of the house early, and didn't have a chance to grab brekkie... I had been thinking of hitting someplace up for a late brunch once I finished on the laser cutter, but got no further than the pub....

HOwdy everybody!
Huh. I made waffles for breakfast too... whole wheat with pecans. A little dry, I had no milk and had to sub coffee for the liquid.
Lots of strawberries this year. Our plants have never been so prolific!

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Strawberries, yum. Sorry to have missed the waffles. Took a long walk in the rain this morning, instead, and really enjoyed it.
Got a phone call this evening from our friend Moonrise; we talked for 2 hours, which, if you know him is a brief chat.
But I am happy to report that he is feeling a lot better and hopes be home from the rehab place by the end of the week or whenever he can get set up for out-patient IV antibiotics. Sadly he will not make it to BRC this year but wishes us all good luck with our preparations and says he'll look for us on the live feed.
And he says to say hi to everyone, sends his love and thanks for the good wishes & support.
I personally feel a lot more calm and rested and organized heading into this coming week than I have felt in a looooooooooong time.

Ha! Welcome back Grai and good morning. Let's have some
and discuss what make a "perfect fry up."
Eggs? Bacon? Sausage? What else???
And will you ever plate one for me, that's what I am wondering.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
all that plus, black pudding. fried bread or toast, mushrooms, baked beans and of course a mug of tea (though i prefer coffee) you can add Tomatoes (peeled plum tomatoes or fried half tomatoes). some caffs also have chips (thats fries to you lot)
the eggs can be fried or scrambled - though fried is usual.
oh you can if you feel extra fancy have eggy bread, but as american bacon is so greasy the grease would make fried bread extra yummy
oh optional extras are hash browns - thats a recent addition though
bubble and squeak (cabbage and potato fried into a cake{of course}) this has fallen out of favour in recent years
white pudding is sometimes available
if you go to scotland or ireland you get these weird potato cake things to, which are nice but a regional variant
ideally the sausage is a cumberland - thats one of those curly sausages but any will do.
personally i like a bit of bread and butter as well to mop up after.
depending on the circumstances you would after eating, read the paper with another mug of tea or go to the pub and carry on drinking.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
I think of a fry-up as a standard go-to breakfast. I couldn't eat waffles every day, but on occasion they're just the thing. Part of it's the syrup, I think (which by the way is awesome on the bacon), or whatever you're doing for toppings. I never really cared for the black pudding or tomatoes/mushrooms bit on a full english or full irish breakfast, but the rest is a bit of alright. Beans seems completely unusual, but strangely works. Hash browns is actually a bit of theft from a full american breakfast...eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns (or fried potatoes), toast, and a couple pancakes/griddle cakes on a side plate... in the south you swap out the toast for sinkers and gravy (biscuits and bacon/sausage gravy). Chips in an english breakfast seems like a lazy fucktard cop-out, probably originated from restaurants without a griddle or who wanted to go to the effort of making hash browns and just tossed some chips in the deep fryer. Either way though, I like potatoes at breakfast, it works both for recovering from the night before, and carbo-loading before a big day of work or fun.
Now I'm thinking about our camp's full playa breakfasts... I pre-cook lots and lots of fried potatoes so we've got them ready to go with just a little fryin' up in the pan on the playa, plus there's usually a little bacon jam to waz in there, plus bacon, occasionally some sausage or spam, and eggs. Have with your beverage of choice - coffee (or if you're near a posh cafe camp, latte or mocha), oj, champers, bloody mary, or a cold beer, conversation with campmates about the previous day and night's adventures...

I'm really glad to hear Moonrise is doing better. If he's got time for a brief chat it sounds like his energy's back up, which is awesome. He'll be missed on the playa, but it's good to see that he's focusing on his health. He'll be back and better than ever when he gets there

Ooh - here's a bit of fun stuff... BMIR will have a presence at this year's Glastonbury Festival. The BMIR and Worthy FM (Glastonbury radio) guys are doing a crew exchange - some of their guys met a couple years back and then last year on the playa they had some crew working at BMIR, and now this year BMIR are working the Glastonbury festival. Bobzilla will be live from the festival at Worthy-FM on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from noon to 2PM pacific time. You can listen live here (free, no subscription required). Hooray for BMIR!

Good morning, all!
Congrats to Bobzilla for his work with the crew from Glastonbury.
Ellorum, you're not too far off my mark on a good breakfast:
Two eggs over easy, hashbrowns with bacon and cheese, sourdough toast with butter, and fresh Ranier cherries, coffee or:
THE BACON BLOODY MARY
2 OZ. Bakon bacon infused vodka
1 cup tomato juice
2 dashes Bacon hot sauce
2 tablespoons pulverized bacon
3 shakes of Bacon Salt (original flavor)
Mix all the above ingredients in a highball glass, then as a swizzle stick, use one freshly cooked and rigid strip of fine bacon product.
Meets all requirements of 'hair of the dog' for the morning after. Consume with 2 aspirin for best results.
