Hello,
This will be my first time @ BM this year and I wanted to bring my DJ equipment. I would like to know what I can expect as far as how I can be most courteous to neighbors wherever I end up camping. I would likely play during the day like 2pm till 6pm. I would also love for others to join and play if interested. I am not going with a camp, just a buddy of mine who has been to BM several years. Also if anyone has experience with bringing their own equipment, I'd love to hear their thoughts on this like setting up, tips, and such. Thanks!!!!

We bring our equipment every year. 2 X Mackies, 2 X CDJ800 and a Rane Mixer. Everything is hooked up to a gas generator and we setup under a shade tent. I highly recommend to use shade b/c the sun can overheat the speakers/equipment. Plus, much more comfortable to dj. We also lock up the cdjs and mixer when we're not in camp. You just never know. In terms of noise, during the day isn't much of an issue. We did a hip hop hour last year and neighbors loved it. Just make friends with your neighbors, invite them over, give out drinks, be respectul and noise shouldn't be much of an issue.

Thanks Mister DJ, that was really helpful. I have two peavey 15" active speaks and a 18" peavey active subwoofer. Would you think the sub is a little overkill? also, do you do anything with the generator to muffle the sound?
Thanks,
M

Be ready to quiet your generator . . .
* Bring the quietest generator you can afford, and the smallest that will meet your actual needs. Larger generators are more difficult to transport, use more fuel and create more pollution.
* Don't run your generator late at night or early in the morning.
* Place the generator as far from other camps as possible.
* Cover your generator with a sound shield or baffle. Do NOT bury it to shield the noise. No matter how well it is filled afterwards, the hole leaves a tremendous gouge in the playa.
* Make sure people can't trip over any power cords.
