Budget got smart - they figured out how many of their trucks were just sitting in the desert unusable for their other customers for a week (a lot). As of last year I think they sharply curtailed the number of trucks available to go to BMan, unless you're driving from a distance (like Salt Lake), and you can expect higher rates & possible cancellations (like you're pretty much guaranteed to get from Uhaul)

Unfortunately, for Budget all the dates for early entry beginning the 21st of August are unavailable.

I went on the U-Haul website and a 10' truck is 19.99 +mileage to be picked up on Aug. 20. Did you try to re-reserve another truck? How would they know you're going to BM?
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

You do realize that's from last August... Finding a solution now is pointless.

But it does warn people that there's an issue this year with Budget too, that in previous years you'd have workable solutions from Budget on Gentry Way.

last year we made our reservation in july. this year a new person answered the phone and told me that they are short on trucks and are raising the rates because of supply and demand.
after three years of dealing with uber burner friendly folk there, it looks like they are under new management. we switched back to enterprise this year.
in florida, we call that "scalping".

Seriously I dont see whether I rent it for 12 days and drive it for two or drive it for twelve should make any difference. Or what a burner or any other renter does with it as long as they don't trash it. A days rental is a days rental regardless of if you drive it.

I can tell you that up till now budget was my company's go to place for rentals year round. Since they have decided to fleece burners (my rental this year is substantially more than double last year's rates) I have decided that any other company will get preference when my business needs a truck.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

They are also warned in the Box Truck Camping thread, and elsewhere not in the ghetto at the bottom of the forum.

Mileage charges. Also, whatever extra fees they add for each new customer.

I'm splitting this chunk of the resurrected 2012 Share Resources thread and moving it to the transportation board.

We're traveling in from Nova Scotia and was considering renting a truck or cargo van from uhaul. Here they are hit and miss for reliable. Every depot we called in Reno reply's with, "We don't rent to burning man"
