Birmingham sucks?

I've been hearing a lot of people recently talking about how Birmingham sucks. I don't get it. It's not such a bad place. They have nice buildings there. Some restaurants. I like their railroads.

It has been nicknamed, "The Magic City." You like magic don't you? Everybody does.

I think of Birmingham as the Alabama "City That Does." People walk around there. Drive in their cars. Shop for items.

Have situations.

I've seen people climb stairs, wash their hands, put stuff in a cupboard, look at something,
change position in a chair . . . sneeze.

They had an earthquake there in 1916 and two F5 tornadoes. It's not easy living in Birmingham.

Ha! General Sherman burnt down Atlanta but he didn't burn down Birmingham, so . . .

Sometimes I think everyone is saying the Birmingham sucks because they really, really like it there and are trying to trick people so they'll stay away. They're saying Birmingham sucks because it really doesn't but they don't want anyone to know that. But you see, everyone knows that Birmingham DOESN'T actually suck or whatever, so . . . WOW!

So let's EVERYONE give a big hand for Birmingham! They really are existing like the dickens. Birmingham doesn't really suck. C'mon. It's alright! It's not dusty.

I think they were referring to the entire state of Alabama.

It's probably like any "shitty town" once you're living at ground level. Soon some of its charm will rub off on you. I thought the same thing about Boise, Idaho, but it's a nice place, clean, and the people seem happy to live there. Then there's Reno -- "the most boring little town in the world" as I call it -- but even it has some charm too, especially when the population is temporarily raised by the influx of burners.

A friend's mother described Birmingham affectionately as the most promiscuous place she had ever been,and I think that was quite saying something.

Other sociological studies actually bore this out.
Something about the place, the people.

Have been hearing a lot about crime and other stuff.
May just be they're catching up with other cities with the economy and crime in larger places.
Austin has had gangs for some time now, and people tell me they stay away now.
