Didn't read that carefully enough, and wondered how your sons became experienced burners at age 8...

Yeah, I didnt write that to clear. I served a total of 26 years in the USAF, from 1979 to 2006. My sons have been going to burning man on and off for about 8 years.
Now im just a middle age guy who would like to experience burning man.

O don't worry about that. The truth is I live in a little bubble and don't always understand what people say.

Welcome. You couldn't have better guides than your sons! Your son's could be great consultants on costumes too - we have several variations on burner uniform.

I know the Air Force is large, with many specialties, but if you are interested in the operations of the Black Rock Intergalactic Spaceport, you could bike out to it on your visit and meet the crew. It is a commercial aviation designated temporary airport. You can walk there, but it is right at the edge of the event boundary, about one mile as the bird flies from Center Camp.

For a web intro - search the main burningman.com site for airport afterburn report and on the playa airport.

ePlaya has a lot of cynicism and snarkyness, don't let that discourage you! Many of our commenters have many years of experience. Searching ePlaya provides very valuable information on any topic.

It's always funny when military planes fly over Black Rock City and do circles above it.

Speaking of which...was on a Southwest flight from Las Vegas to Seattle when I suddenly realized we were over the Black Rock desert. Passengers were only slightly amused when I suddenly lurched over to the other side of the airplane to get a better look at the playa...(albeit devoid of any signs of life in December.)

Welcome.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Welcome to eplaya Ted.

Now, as a Birgin, you may not be aware that Burning Man has a quota on how many ex-AirForce members it allows to attend. But fear not! As I am not making the trek out this year, a spot has opened up, and your in luck, it's yours

Get dusty for me Ted, just make sure you don't wander on over to the airport and get caught on the flight line without your line badge
Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

Hummmmm, burning man flight line badges. Good idea!
Might have to get "jacked up" if I cross that red line.

Burning man is just a darpa survival study at this point anyway.

Welcome, Ted.
