They started a Leave no trace initiative in 2008. I don't think it has sunk in yet.

This is why it is so important that we carefully coach new burners in the unique ethos of Burning Man. If we just sell tickets and let ticket-holders in, BM will soon be defunct -- and much of our efforts wasted. I'll say it again; tickets to BM should be available only thru an "apprenticeship" program. Luckily, we have the beginnings of such a system now -- the Directed Distribution System. The rest is up to each of us -- when we encounter a clueless BRC ticket-holder in need of education.

Before you shout "discrimination!", please take another look at the Glastonbury photos. How will those people behave when they get back to their own default neighborhoods?

People act like pigs all over the globe.
You don't have to go to Glastonbury if you don't want to.

It would be different if they had the BLM to contend with.

I'm not trying to excuse any of the mess that's left at Glastonbury, but it's the same every year and has been since I first went 16 years ago - people leave tents and all sorts of mess when they leave on the Monday. Some initiatives like plastic tent pegs and an improvement in recycling have happened, but generally it's a nightmare.

That said, Glastonbury has an amazing recycling crew who return the place to it's pristine previous condition, get paid and get lots of free stuff they find...

A little like Simon's floor pill recycling program.

Fact is James that it is your fault and people should come and wake you up fairly early in the morning by playing music that you don't like loudly by your tent.

Roll up roll up come to Camp P6 and see the world's grumpiest leprechaun!

This is way beyond hoping to establish leave no trace anytime soon. It looks to me like the Glastonbury Festival needs to establish a dumpster bin service to make it convenient enough for the festival goers to dispose of their rubbish so that they actually do so.

Truth be told, the early days of Burning Man were pretty filthy as well.

"Leave No Trace" was purloined from the Sierra Club I think, and burners needed to have it hammered in before it stuck.
Seems Glastonbury needs a bit of hammering as well.
Maybe replace the weeping Indian with a Druid?

An ex landlord of mine used to get free ticket to glasto from his brother, he would stay after as long as he could and claim tents, beer, food anything he could lay his hands on. He had no interest whatsoever in the festival. he even brought a caravan back one year.
