Radio Station looking for steady power.
I can pitch in on a constant power source. I would need at least 600 watts constant.
Thanks,

Re: Radio Station looking for steady power.
Hey Randy,
I've been specing power for our camp which has a radio station (100.3 Porn-n-Donuts Radio) but it was designed to be power friendly. I assume a computer or speakers in addition to the station to get upto that 600 watt figure?
Here is what we are doing and the power specs we figured:
Radio (30watts)
Music source (10 watts) (raspberry pi w/ sd card)
mixer if not doing it in software (0 if s/w)
Speakers are power expensive but not explicitly required for the station. Squeezing 40 watts out of someone is easy, 400-600, less so, but I am also curious if there is some piece of equipment I am forgetting that i should have (compressor? eq? all seem like excess power draw for an event like this)

Re: Radio Station looking for steady power.
You are correct. I only put the max I would need. I too run a 30 watt transmitter.
Mine transmitter needs 13.8V DC at 4.5 amps
So the transmitter at 62.1 watts plus a laptop at 60 watts is only 121 watts.
So I am actually only looking for 121 watts.
I am also Looking for a camp to join!!
I will be bringing a small generator or solar panels if the camp I join does not have power.
Good to meet a fellow broadcaster Max. Thank you.

Re: Radio Station looking for steady power.
Fellow LPFM'er here.
Are you really running 30 watts ERP up to the radiator? WTF for? With a 5/8 wave bumpstick at 40 feet and 2 watts stereo you can absolutely plaster all of BRC with a near-city-grade contour. Why so much power? Or is this just the transmitter (exciter?) specs you have available?
30 watts in such a small, flat venue is a whopping bunch of ERP. Get some height on that and they could hear you in Reno!
At some point I fear the FCC boys are going to spank if we keep playing with higher output airchains, and then we will be SOL with one of the neater, quasi-legal performances, outlawed. FWIW, there is a real push in the LPFM ranks to reduce power and play nice in order to avoid this. BM, since it sits on federal land, would be ripe for this sortof enforcement.

You can bring up any concerns you have in the Burning Man broadcasting forums.
I have decided on solar power with 200 watt panels with a solar generator.
I am off now to find an amazing group of people to hang out with when I come back home.

Re: Radio Station looking for steady power.
30 watts is for the entire setup - raspberry pi, transmitter, had considered a mixer board in that figure also.. 5 watts PEP

I forgot to mention - two phone lines on a voip adapter + wifi + radio transmitter + wifi uplink fell under 40 watts in the end
