This is for my 6 X 8 shelter and 14 X 6 van shade.. Can be adjusted to any size..

In the middle top of the shelter/shade.. Cut a one foot square out.. Cut in from each corners of the opening about three inches. Lay 1/4 inch rope down and fold the canvas over the rope.. Make sure your fold is to the inside.. Glue this into place making a square hole.. Take another canvas cut six inches larger than the opening.. Cut three inches in from the corners towards the center.. 1/4 inch rope and glue this square.. Put a grommet on the outside edge at each corner of the square.. Lay the square over the hole in the top of the shelter.. Put in matching grommets to the square in the shelter top.. Use half inch "nylon" rope.. With about a foot of rope (4) tie a knot in one end.. Thread each rope through the grommets..
Tie a knot in the rope.. Put your shelter up and watch as the wind fills it the hatch or square will lift and allow the wind a place to exit.. When the wild dies down the
hatch will drop closed.. On a larger hatch you may have to add weigh the the knotted ropes.. A small hatch will work on a tent..
