"spiciest, tastiest Bloody Mary on the planet"

will need:
  • split one stem of celery heart
  • slice one gherkin pickle
  • double thick smoked bacon strip, cooked crispy enough it doesn't sag
Mix:
  • 150 ml tomato juice over ice
  • pinch of BBQ rub
  • one drip of Tabasco
  • 20 ml of BBQ sauce
  • shake of Worcester sauce
  • 50 ml jalapeno vodka
  • squeeze of lemon juice
  • shake or vigorous stir
Pour into glass over ice, then add:
  • one piece of celery
  • one slice of gherkin
  • one strip of double thick smoked bacon

Hi GH!!

wow, prep is ramping up!!
I wish someone around here like plumbs.......I have one tree, about to break all it's limbs it's so full!
I bet there's 50 lbs of plumbs hanging there, and I have no time, or real inclination, to pick them all.
I'll probably just go shake it from time to time to get some to fall off so the limbs don't break.

You're right about that! I am going to have playa-specific boxes that will go into the trailer last. That way if i don't find a place to live in time to move in before bman, I can at least get my boxes of bman crap out of storage in SF without unpacking every single box.

I'm plum out of ideas <rimshot>

In the cocktail recipe department, there's always the Pago Pago Octopus...

Hooray for my friend with the food truck. His storefront in the Haight had been shut down because neighbors had complained of the smell. Lots of nonsense ensued, and last night was his hearing. Wearing his lucky shirt (the one he got married in), after a long meeting he emerged victorious. He'll install an air filtration system and do his truck prep at another location (part of the complaint was they didn't want to see his truck parked on the street?), then be able to re-open. Aside from being friends with him and a few on his crew, I've got a vested interest in their success - they make the bacon jam we bring to the playa.

I've got a busy day ahead though, lots of painting and poly-coating, and then a trip to the lumber yard and the liquor store.

Morning ((((MDF & Grai)))). Top of the morning to you both. Late last night got the final schedule of my ARTery and Art Tour shifts! Looks like it is just perfect. ARTery Saturday and Sunday mornings and Art Tour Guide on Tuesday and Friday! So plenty of play time for us all to make mischief!! Got a new pink tunic that will go perfectly with my red tutu. Down in the studio today to make more Boobles and some other stuff and will run over to Home Depot to get some more PVC pipe for our shade structure extension and AA batteries. Worrying about how to carry 24 pieces of 10' PVC pipe on the roof of the SUV along with artificial grass and shade fabric.

Still need one ticket for a good friend and campmate. So, if you hear of a spare ticket needing a home, PLEASE PM me!

I hear from a number of sources that the Playa surface is not too good this year and that recent rains have caused some serious "got stuck" grief for some unsuspecting folks that ventured a bit too far afield. For my part, I am counting on no more rain, and continuing hot, dry weather to dry things up during the next 40 days or so to make things just swell! Hey GH, keep us posted on the latest Playa conditions

Hi MDF!!
Hi Marty!!
yeah, it'll be interesting how the surface of the playa ends up. I'm not sure, but imagine once the initial inches of the surface dry pretty quickly, as fine as the particles are, it dries fairly slow after.
I wonder if it'll be soft? I wonder if we could at all experience "liquefaction" in small areas, like heavily traveled roads, where the vibration and motion of lots of vehicles in specific spots, brings water back to the surface? Wow, that'd be something, to have "mud pits" develop. I've experienced this in my tractor work, where the surface seems very dry and stable, but water is fairly close to the surface, and as you go back and forth over the same spot, the water comes up (motion and capillary action, I guess) the "crust" fails and you're stuck.

also, seems we'll be testing the theory that the playa surface is best, when it has standing water on it after the last freeze.

time will tell.

Hi YG. At the ARTery meeting on Thursday night, Bettie June indicated that BMORG has contingency plans re rain and the conditions that you describe. Didn't say what, but evidently there are folks looking at the potential challenge that this might pose. We'll see. What will be, will be and conditions be damned, we'll all have a blast!!! At least, that's my plan!

Good Morning! thanks for livening up the place, early folks.
*hmmm, looks around, finds a carrot for the War Rabbit outside.*
yeah, coffee, another cup. Thank you. Too much to do now. I passed the tipping point from "all the time in the world" to "holy shit, that's not going to happen" project planning. It seems like it was an overnight change.
Got a little RC tank in the mail on Thursday, and wondered what the hell I was thinking. I'm wallowing in toys, and parts of toys, and it seems that worrying about growing up and planning for Burning Man are pulling me in opposite directions, and the same direction as well. Plan and execute. Think it up and build it. Mindfully stepping on the right stones as best I can determine.
I'm also wondering what the little yellow airsoft balls that the tank shoots will sound like in the vacuum cleaner. Marty, it's like a little martial tennis ball machine for tiny tennis players. I know I can't bring them to Burning Man.

*leaving war rabbit in stable, wanders back in *

so, sitting here taking a break from the heat/work, I'm thinking about electrolytes.
We advise people, all the time to hydrate. But we don't usually include electrolytes in our conversation/advice.
so, finding the most needed elecrolytes are:
Sodium
Potassium
Magnesium
Phosphate
Chloride

and of course, alcohol.**

leaving alcohol aside for the moment, where can we find all this, and more?
and not only that, but free?

answer: Playa dust.
considering all the other trace minerals in it, along with a little radioactivity, hell, what could be better?

so, springs forth "Playa juice": the all around rehydration formula, that also mixes with your favorite spirits.

Funny you should mention that, Ygmir... we were just talking about that recently, and our dear Savannah's working on revving up a thread on the subject. It's often overlooked, even though these days the Survival Guide has a nice bit of coverage on the idea. They're not just needed to survive, but to thrive (avoid crankiness and fatigue and all that). Keep your eyes open for it when it comes out, and please weigh in. I'm hopeful that people will share their experiences and help give some of the newer folks (or seasoned burners who didn't know) some ideas to help them have a better burn.

Glad to hear BettieJune had some reassurances to offer, Marty. My understanding is that Burning Man has all kinds of contingency plans that people may not realize. Remember when the man burned early in 2007? They had a backup back in SF they were able to scramble, prep, and get ready. Any good playa plan has redundancies and what-ifs worked into it. If the folks at HQ are anything like my girlfriend, the memory of that 1998 burn is so deeply ingrained that there's always a contingency plan for wet weather, or getting stranded on the playa.

I'm excited to hear that it looks like SF decom will be going down on 10/13 at the same spot in the dogpatch area of SF. I'd been hearing some rumors that the location may change, and of course that would have been Murphy's Law, now that we live in the neighborhood. It's all about stumbling distance :D

I was up early enough to make my way into Second Life this morning and attend the Burn2 town hall meeting. Burn2 is the virtual world regional burn, it goes down later in October, and is a lot of fun. Pandorra and I have been particpating in that event since 2008, and we love the space. They announced that camp parcels are on sale now (purchased using the in-game currency, and priced based on the size/detail of the camp space). Like other regionals, it's self-supporting, and they're looking to cover the cost of 9-12 "sims" (256 square meter chunks of virtual world space). They'll also have something like 85 plots available to give to people in the game world (which is free to play, btw) in a sort of lottery. They're also doling out space to artists and builders who submit proposals and all that, I'll avoid going full regional spammy in here lol. Anyhow, while I was at the meeting and getting the skinny on what's going on, Pandorra and I were asked to build a temple for the event! My first reaction was fright (gah!), then it was to reject the idea (oh hell no, we're already up to our eyeballs in building ziggurats in RL), then as they explained that the timetable for design and construction gave us room to finish TTITD and get back home again, Pandorra and I talked it over and agreed to give it a go. So look at us, building virtual temples!

Anyhow, it's been a busy Saturday. Painting and polycoating parts :) Now it's time to refresh my drinkelectrolyte solution and get back to work!

:D
I imagine practically any "dirt" would have some of the necessary trace minerals.

But my formula is a mixture of Gatorade and water. I was recently at an athletic event in near 100 degree heat where a course worker followed me up a long steep grade, handing me small bottles of water, and he reported to race control thru his radio that entrant 901 was doing fine (in spite of running dead last), drinking both electrolytes and water. And this guy turned out to be a physician. Electrolytes matter.

Gatorade is said to be quite strong, and more than once I have received praise for my 50/50 mixture.

Hold on, hold on...

When I think of electrolytes, I think battery acid.

Playa dust is alkaline.

I thought OJ, V8, pickle juice and sundry were what were called for.

Correct, Figjam, but I think Ygmir was joking about trace minerals, without regard to Ph level. Fruit juices should be good for electrolytes.

If it makes you feel any better, Fishy, it sounds like you're only seeing a fraction of what we're catching. Your vigilance is most appreciated, especially while the board's dripping in molasses these last few days (an issue that should hopefully be resolved by Wednesday).

Since Simon hasn't chimed in with the suggestion, how about playa lines as a source of trace minerals?

Lucky, I like the way you think - reverse body shots = brillant! Between the dust and sweat, that's a double shot of health right there ;)
