I find that since they changed the formula for Gatorade in the mid to late 80's, it doesn't quench my thirst anymore.
I've gone over to the "industrial" version of Gatorade. Squencher.
Used in industry to minimize downtime, keep workers alert, safe and making good decisions while not exhausting them. Local company used to have to shut down the welding inside the large steel containers on summer afternoons, but now they keep cups and a cooler of Squencher on the line.
Squencher has half the sodium and 50% more potasium than Gatorade. High in a mix of sugars that give an energy boost, but without the stimulants found in energy drinks (not even caffeine).
It's not as good an electrolyte as Emergen-C and the other more potent ones, but it keeps you out of trouble to begin with for much less cost. You may want to bring something more potent for your personal use or if you get in trouble, but to have sitting available in a camp to refresh and keep people out of trouble, and at low cost, it's an excellent choice.
It's expensive in liquid form ($18 locally to yield 2.5 gallons)(and the liquid concentrate attracts all the hornets in range) but much much cheaper in powder.
Comes in bags that yield 1 gallon, 2.5 gallons or 5 gallons. Mixes with three to four circles of the wooden spoon.
I had 80x 1g bags (orange) and 32x 2.5 gallon bags (assorted) (~100 lbs.?) delivered to Reno last year for $196.00. Enough to make 160 gallons. That's $1.23 a gallon for the Squencher.
