Need an unusual favor from Reno local...

Good Day ePlaya - We're flying in to Reno from NC and looking for a Reno connection who can provide electricity and an overnight storage place for our chest freezer - a ground level carport, garage, or back room in your office maybe? Our camp, The Mudskipper Urban Decay, serves root beer floats and we'll receive a shipment of ice cream to fill the freezer on Friday. We asking for access to plug and chill the freezer Friday morning then load with ice cream and freeze over night before we depart for the Playa Saturday morning. We would be eternally grateful for your help to our Cargo Cult and search for John Frum. We would also like to take you out for a drink. Thanks.

Welcome to eplaya and good luck with your hunt for a place.

I might offer you a thought about maybe checking into one of the more established hotels and see if they will let you plug in for a day. The better ones will go out of their way to accommodate a guest.

I ship boxes to my hotel and pick them up on the way, as well as stay on the way out and use the dumpster. They actually leave the dumpster gate open for burners who are staying there to use. In addition, I leave any items I want to send home in a large box, to be picked up with a will call tag.

Thanks - i will call our hotel to inquire. I do agree the Reno hotels are really accommodating - where do you stay? We tour the city and chose a different place each time.

I can attest that Mudskipper's kicked ass last year. You guys were our neighbors 2 doors down (we were Camp Toga), and your floats were delicious and your music was very entertaining!

I'm sure you've considered various contingency plans, but maybe you could put it on a trailer in a parking lot and run a genny for a day to get it cold if you can find no better alternative? Perhaps dump a bunch of ice/dry ice into some plastic bins/buckets in the cooler to take the initial chill off (and to prevent any melted/refrozen ice from sticking to the freezer walls).... Kind of a shitty solution, but maybe useful if you get desperate.

I'm giving this a nudge over to the Share Resources board, since that's a better fit for this kind of post.

Definitely check with the hotel, as well as some of your other campmates (whom I believe have tackled this challenge before).

Good one. Also maybe a storage yard. I know some offer parking for vehicles during the burn.

how big is the freezer and what time (approx) are we looking at here?

Thanks Lucky420! The freezer is 33" tall x 33" wide x 22" deep - 110 outlet. We hope to arrive in Reno Wednesday, deliver the freezer to its overnight home by noon on Thursday 8/22 to chill. Load ice cream Thursday afternoon/evening and pick it up the whole frozen block Friday on our way to the playa. We have one potential snag which might delay the schedule to Thursday/Friday/Saturday but we will head to the playa no later than Saturday noon. We'll confirm travel this week. What say you?

that schedule sounds good. I have others prestaging at my house but they'll all be gone by Thursday. I will be picking up my budget truck Sat morning but one of my kids (adult burners) will be home. We leave for the playa Sunday early afternoon. So it looks like this could work for you and wouldn't be in my way either.

As it gets closer to the burn. Hit me up and I will pm you my address and phone number. My place is super easy to find and less than about a minute to I80 (Keystone exit)
