Re: DJ's
I think there are only about 3 or 4 people gong this year who is not a DJ. They're everywhere so it should be easy to find them.
I think Bassnectar will be at the trash fence again this year.

Re: DJ's
Nope, no official list. The various app things and the girl who makes a PDF list each year do make an effort, but a) it's unofficial, b) it's not going to be updated with much info for this year until just before this year's event, and c) the levels of accuracy are questionable. There are thousands of stages and thousands of artists all mishing and mashing together and working out who's going to play what, when, and where, all scheduled completely independently and in some cases not even finalized until the day of the gig.

Re: DJ's
I know some DJs that are confirmed to perform this year: Blond:ish, Lee Burridge, Mike Khoury, Audiofly, BROHN, Damian Lazarus, Scarlett Etienne, and The Scumfrog.
Anyone know of any others?

Re: DJ's
Nope. I'm kind of relieved never to have heard of any of those people, because even though they might be totally fucking amazing, and I will probably dance to them unto dehydration and never learn their names: the day I go to Burning Man for DJs is the day I die.

Scumfrog?
Good lord. I don't care how good some of these DJs may be, the names are getting stupid(er)*
*full disclosure: my full time job is working for international DJs, so I know this subject well

Actually, Scumfrog is pretty good. Saw them last year and have a few "Cd's" from the web. They put out a 1 hour set made for the "drive to BM" last year, quite tasty.

Re: DJ's
i'm going to say this again.
a set list, announced before the event, would make this a MUSIC FESTIVAL, which it is not....
i preferred when it was a fucking surprise, and Kate The Librarian, i love you, but the pre-event publishing of the superstar DJ's should stop before Nevada decides to re-classify us as other than an ART FESTIVAL and tack on even more taxes and fees as we become spectators by our own designs.
just my opinion, and having been to china, can totally pull a Nixon on this.
so to answer the OP's question, i fucking hope not.

Re: DJ's
We had a big discussion of this last year - maybe someone will dig it up and post a link.
Mr Simon, who is the most knowledgeable person on ePlaya about large sound camps is right in all respects on this. BM is an oral culture. Ask around, get right info sometimes, wrong sometimes and often just come across something epic! Everything is playatime anyway!

Re: DJ's
thank you, im sure there are others with more experience than i, but i have been in the trenches so to speak, for a while.
i think it's important to note that i love the OOOOONTZ. i really do, i used to get made fun of, called names for my musical tastes, and now that it's mainstream, i find the whole "scene" pretty interesting, from a sociological standpoint...
i'm pretty old to be a raver, i'm 49, but, Disco has been around as long as i have, and EDM is TECHNO, people, even though eminem claims nobody listens to it anymore.
my hope is for Balance...
in the past few years, as the wave of "Rave" popularity rolled over and around us, the playa has become a focal point, a proving ground for DJ's and producers.
we are Important in that manner, believe me, EVERY motherfucking DJ worth his salt wants to say he's played some big stage at Burning Man, it gives them instant street cred.
this chum in the water also draws the sharks.
i know who they are, and where they swim, and as a lifeguard of sorts, i only want to make sure that they do not attempt to eat the event, in many ways, large and small.
the LSC (large scale sound) need to respect these boundaries, and NOT ALLOW DEFAULTIA BUSINESS onto the playa...pretend it's a party for you and your friends, not how can we pump up the new talent, or where can we not so secretly place mounds of product that have been "donated" to us..
i will name no names, you know who you are.
keep that shit outta Black Rock, it does not belong on the dust.
and try to do something other than pills and nitrous all week and for god's sake, GO OUT AND VISIT THE REST OF THE FUCKING CITY, dont just flutter between 10 and 2 every goddamn night.
am i shitting on the rave camps? No...i'm warning you, my friends and comrades in sub-woofers, that you must check yourselves before you wreck ourselves...
it's not a fucking dirt rave, it's a fucking ART PICNIC w Music and dancing.
participation is not shuffling from one superstar dj's set to the next....that is Coach- Hell-a
THIS IS BURNING MAN
so act accordingly.
thank you, i will get off of my 120 BPM soapbox.
one more thing.....TRAP sucks worse than dubstep....that is all

I understand its not a dirt rave, and Im not coming for the DJs
but I am coming and there are DJs, so if one of my favourites
is playing I thought I could spare a hour or two

Re: DJ's
no sweat, really, it wasnt directed at you so much as the general public....i rant alot.
take my noise with a grain of playa salt, it is a generic, but timely outburst about the interplay of different factions of burners.
i'm think a little push back is needed, and have been trying to foster the notion that advertising DJ line-ups before the event runs contrary to a few of the "10 principles", and no these are not strict sharia laws, but guidelines that have steered this enormous dusty ship so far so good.
and, it is merely an opinion.
have fun shaking your booty, the playa provides some of the tastiest sound around, and often, you'll find out 3 days later who was actually spinning at the fantastic sunrise set you were grooving at...i kinda like it that way.

Re: DJ's
Simon is correct....I listened to a ton of music, but I heard about three outstanding sets last year, at odd times, just happened upon them, that were simply the best. The best shit I ever heard. Took me at least a week after I got home to find out who they were.

Re: DJ's
It's NOT a music festival, Burning Man I mean.
If that were true there would be more live acts and DJs would be banned.
Hmm.

i went to art school..
i learned all kindsa art history stuff.. saw all kinds of art... learned to make and do all sorts of things..
id say in the context of an "arts festival", this is more like "art":

than this stuff is "art":

of course "what is art" is a huge amazingly boring discussion..
but for the purposes of this discussion, lets presume that "art" in the context of burning man refers to the camps/sculptures/mutantvehicles/installations and "not art" refers to the DJ's and music.
