Need to tie up with burners
Need to tie up with burners
Hi;
I've been to BM two times over a dozen years ago when I lived in CA, so I am familiar with what I need to do. However, this time I am coming to BM from NH and need help. I am looking for some people I can;
a) meet up with in some west coast city, San Jose, San Francisco, Sacramento, Las Vegas, etc.
b) Drive to BM and share expenses of getting there
c) Need a place to call home during BM, sleep, cook, etc.
d) It would be best if wherever I stay has kitchen & dining, and I'll contribute to costs, cleanup, cooking, etc.
e) need a place to put my sleeping bag & sleep
f) need a ride back to whatever city so I can fly back to NH
I can be reached at;
[email protected]
603-734-4500 home
603-289-5656 cell
Thanx for your help.

First, welcome to eplaya.
Second - you may want to exercise some radical self reliance or you will get a lot of flack here. Depending on someone else for basic needs is probably not the smartest way to go to a place where you could easily die or end up in serious trouble physically / mentally.

Try the Rideshare program, local Burners, ePlaya (which you're doing), BM Facebook pages, CL, or a magical flying unicorn.

Hi Romeo!
Camps don't usually hunt down new members in this forum, so you'll probably have to hunt them down yourself, but it won't be that hard.
You could fly into Reno and catch the new Burner Express shuttles to the playa.

Or google the Green Tortoise San Francisco--they bus ride from SF, food, water, group shade. You'd still need a tent. Almost any camp you stay in will still expect you to provide that much.
But you could also look for an RV share in the Share Resources list and then you wouldn't even need that.

Here's one place to find a camp.

Good luck!

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Just save up your money and join a plug and play camp. There is no need to bring anything and do all that camping nonsense they are talking about. The plug and play camps are just like an all inclusive hotel.

Re: Need to tie up with burners
Thank you for all the input. No, I don't expect to just show up with a pocket full of money. I do have camping gear. The problems are, I caught this ticket late in the game and I haven't had months to plan my trip to BM. So, now I need to ramp up quickly. I can get a rent car somewhere in CA, I can go to a grocery store and stock up, I can get some fuel fro my little Primus stove, I can get water and I can pitch my tent. I don't have a cooler, I don't know anyone and Lord knows, its always better to have friends and acquaintances to 'share the load'!
If a couple of people are flying to Las Vegas, or San Francisco or somewhere not too far away from BM, and they would accept another person to drive up, then 3 people splitting costs of a rent car and gas is a lot easier on the pocket book than 2 people. Same goes with food, just as easy to cook for 3, or 4, or 5 as it is for one, etc.
So, I'm back to where I started, looking for people to make friends with and share the load.

Re: Need to tie up with burners
I'm giving this a nudge to the Share Resources board, since that's a better fit for the rideshare aspect of the discussion (especially if you're looking to camp with your ride). You may also want to try reading some of the 2013 camps board, if you want to sort out a camp separately. Lots of good info and tips there for your perusal.

Re: Need to tie up with burners
Hi... good job on keeping a good attitude despite getting a little flak - on eplaya, anyone who even appears to not be taking care of all their own logistics gets roasted. There's good reason for it, there's always a stream of new burners that don't get it about what they need to do.
It's risky showing up depending on connections with people you don't know for your infrastructure. I'd sooner do what it took to cover my own self, and then see about making friends to camp with later. If I were in your shoes I'd try to find and meet local burners - I know, a long shot. It costs more to solo it, good lord I can tell you all about that, but I do it even though I'm usually in a camp.
The shuttle busses are probably a good idea.

Re: Need to tie up with burners
I know the NY container if full, but you may want to check the Boston Container Crew (no update) http://bostonburners.org/?page_id=11 and I believe there was some space on the Philly Container if you want to look them up. That's how I get the majority of my stuff there and back.
Best of luck.
