We shall form a girl gang with black satin jackets and call ourselves The Thursday Night Ravens.

We'll demand protection money, only--since 1) it's Burning Man, and 2) we're ravens--we'll accept insects, berries, & shiny objects.

CAW, fuckos!

I dunno; you're suspiciously tall to be a Raven.

You're going to have to walk around on your knees.

once upon a weekday, clearly
as i sundered, so very nearly
o'er the many tainted threads of eplaya lore
there came a cawing
as of someone gently gnawing
at my feeble attempts to be something more
'tis the ravens,thursday ravens
merely ravens of eplayan lore

thursday night ravers arent nearly as bad as the monday morning fabric softener smelling people who show up after all of the REAL work is done complaining about how long the line was.

BITCH. I'm already sick of this dust..

(i already pissed off the early setup crew when I showed up 4 days ago.... theyd been here for 2 weeks... you better be on your BEST behavior cuz theyll be about ready to kill a guy by now! they ran out of clean socks last week!!)

as a famous wise man once said:

THIS KINDA SHIT JUST DOESNT COME ALL UP OUT OF NOWHERE, NO -Ol' Dirty Bastard

in other news..

THIS ONE TIME, AT BURNING MAN..i had my first experience with a "thursday night raver" except he showed up on saturday... I was out at the man burn place on sunday and this real clean guy is all like walkin around and i chatted him up and he seemed so out of it, he didnt seem to know what was going on... poor guy, it was like a lost puppy...

Most of you fuckos posting here are inner city and don't have to hear the "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, WE'RE AT BURN'N MAN BITCHES!!!!" shouted every two minutes from the new arrival frat boys stopping at the first portos on the outer rings.
So quit yerbitchen.

I camped on Kindergarten and 5:45 in 2012, one of the highlights was the persistent gong ringing and subsequent yeehawing and distinct clap of high-fiving.......until about Wednesday morning 3AM.......

... one of my last-standing Burnier-than-thou irritations.

It seems every year mid-week, I go out and try to navigate the Esplanade at night but find only bungling assholes with a fistful of glowsticks (Sergio Leone, U.S. 2009, 190 min.) At some point I realize that one time, I was at Burning Man for the first time looking like a fucking tourist. *le sigh* Ok. Fine. You're here and observing. Nobody could possibly have prepared you for what it was or how to be prepared yourself. You walk like a gaggle of hand-holding douches at a 5K. Your senses soak it up as fast as they can like your first trip to Chuck-E-Cheese as a 6-year-old. And you say shit like "Woooo Burning Man". Colon-roll-colon. In all-caps.

What this has turned into is the mid-week burnout day. I have come to plan that one day (typically Wednesday) I will try to do absolutely nothing. I'll just lounge around camp all day. Relatedly, for most years I have avoided the Man Burn like a metaphor for something highly undesirable. I have had some great experiences meeting others like me in the high-letter 'burbs. But last year I camped with some cool people and we went early for front-row seats. It was definitely worthwhile — I especially liked touring all the art cars and the ingenuity of them all.

I've watched the Man Burn from the Esplanade since 2006. Hates being in that mass of people, I do. Just hates it.

I watched the burn from under Dr. Helix's awesome heart sculpture in 2011 (the one in his avatar) just off Esplenade. There were a handful of us all strangers to one another (initially anyway).

having done the inner circle thing a few times for the man burn i think its quite hilarious how many of the people who were up close when the man burned start walking away and fleeing for the city and mutant vehicles as soon as the rangers open the flood gates... and all of the fckin hippies run FULL SPEED towards the burning man base...

its kinda weird..

its like for one group the reaction is: 'yeah.. that was cool.. it was hot, i'm done.. lets go back to camp and get fuckin drunk'

meanwhile all these people are rushing in as a huge hoard ..just getting started with.. whatever.

something in that little interplay between the folks who just saw the same thing up close but are done with it..heading back to camp.. and the folks who just saw the same thing from afar but want to run up and get all up close to the fire ... reveals the difference between the 'thursday night raver' and the... non-thursday night raver. ....maybe..... or maybe not ...or...perhaps im looking too deeply for meaning in something which has none.

Last year for me it started to be more like "yeah.. that was cool.. it was hot, i'm done.. lets go back to camp and get fuckin drunk". I think it signaled for me that in subsequent years I'll just sit out the man burn unless there's some special circumstance compelling me to go.

When the perimeter drops, MyLarry and I beat feet away as fast as we can. But then, we have the fuel cart with us, and that's not something you want near a big fire, nor in a crowd.
I think most people who are inside of the perimeter have been there for hours already and just want to get a fucking drink in their hands after they go pee.
