I used to wear a belt like this back when I was pounding nails. Now they are available mainly on sites like ebay.

Personally, I HATE utility belts. The are OK, I guess, if all you are doing is walking around. But if you're going to be climbing on/through things, they get caught on everything. Plus they are just uncomfortable. YMMV.

It would be a liability to be climbing on something with people below you and have something fall out. Maybe that's why they discontinued that design.

I think it's a definite personal preference - I find my pod belt to be way more comfortable than a backpack or a camelback, and never have problems climbing on or around anything. I also wore a belt with shit all over it for years doing Ren Faire, so I'm used to being very active with one on. YMMV indeed. :)

I saw utility belts for sale at the Roseville auction for $8 each.

Yup. I don't care much for backpacks or camelbacks either. I have two lockable panniers on my bike that stores everything I could possibly need away from camp.

I hoop, so am not a big fan of having extras around my hips. I went with a harness/holster type. Mine is canvas, but you can make them out of basically anything:

1) create two loops to go around your arms and attach in the back with elastic (you can use belts, heavy fabric, whatever)
2) put some d-rings at the bottoms of the loops (where they'll hang under your arm pits)
3) clip on whatever

Hang your pouches/bags sideways if you can (if they zip) so you can get into them easily.

Mine hold sunglasses, bathroom kit, utility knife, dust mask, goggles, EL inverter (to light them up), a snack, and my cup clipped to one and a water bag clipped to the other.

Just another alternative!

The leather utility pouches would be great for branding. The belts with pouches would be really handy during camp setup.

here are the images of my cargo belt (thank you to Savannah for the helpful settings hint <3 ) i used the shoulder strap as the belt, turned the two main compartments of the messenger bag into two big hip pockets, and have been adding other little pockets & pouches & loops as i find or make them. the strap really made this project super easy because it already had a buckle and adjustment sliders. plus, the pockets already had zippers. it's really been a super easy, super fun, super useful project.

i have 3 belts that i got from http://www.mishuboutique.com/#!shop/c22j5

it is a small shop in seattle - i have no affiliation, have just shopped there in the past (both in store and online)...you see a lot of other shops selling belts for >$100 - this shop is cheaper, and i've had my belts for years - quality is not lacking.

Lollergirl, that is a beauty. (So are you by the way). My utility belt has nothing in common with it's self. All manner of crap hanging from all different hooks etc... Yours is organized, great looking and can actually be useful.

Mine is more like a 'waist-necklace'.

I approach it differently. I pick out what I want to carry along. I put it in which ever bag suits and then I string that on a belt. I have a bunch of bags and tend to carry different stuff depending where I'm headed. Crazy? Yup.

There, there, Eric. I wore a top and a skirt of theirs to the 2011 M&G, because I wanted to be dressed like a deer (you know how I do).

I've tried the link several times and can't seem to get far.
I click on leather belts and then a picture of the belt/pouch and then the whole thing freezes and stops.

Wonder if their server is really busy?

Here's my tutorial for making a burn belt. I think it's one of the best out there, and since I teach you to make your own pattern, you can customize as you prefer.

Or.....Turn an old purse inside out and use the dual pockets inside to make pockets that hangs on a belt. This purse had beautiful lining so I couldn't resist. Color co-ordination is so pretty. Make several pockets for different outfits.

I totally endorse the sturdy belt with variety of pouches idea. You can't know, until you try them, which pouches work for which activities/ times of day/ modes of transport, or, which work in the portos (think about that) with which items of clothing. :? I make sure all my pouches will slide freely on my belt so I can move them as needed. But I also make sure they won't all slide off when I unbuckle my belt. It took me years to learn how to strip naked without losing anything and that is really a safety skill in BRC.

Whatever ( belt, pack, or bag ) you wear, attach a hook or cord to hang it off of the port-a-potty wet floor. I carry a couple of small bungees on my EDC (every day carry) pouch.
