Re: Rest In Peace
Rest In Peace to the human behind the Nix Sands avatar in Second Life, who passed on the 20th after a long battle with cancer. I never got his real name. Or if he told me, I didn't remember - Nix was the name he gave himself and chose to go by in the virtual world. He was a talented artist and designer of buildings, gadgets, and clothing in Second Life, and a skilled prop-maker in Defaultia (or RL, as it's referred to in the virtual world). When my girlfriend and I first connected with SL back in 2008, we had fun getting lost and exploring, and as we started to make connections with the victorian and steampunk community in the game, his work was one of the first that really knocked us over. After writing to thank him and heap praise upon his creations we had a few conversations and struck up a friendship over the years, not only as steampunk fans, but as virtual designers and occasional colleagues (we both ran stores, and would recommend cities and communities that we thought might be a good place to open up a new location, or just explore with a sense of wonder). And we'd gripe and grouse when a place we loved went down the tubes. We may not have ever met in person, but he will be missed dearly nevertheless.

Aaron Plunkett, a friend of mine since elementary school, only a few years younger than me, he leaves behind young children, a wife, and a mom whom i've known since i can remember.
He lived Hard and he Died Young.
i guess it's time to start reading the obits every day, like my father does.
it's to see who of his friends have died.....i never ever thought i would get to this point, actually, as i was certain i'd be long gone by now.
every hour is a wound, the last one kills you.

The obits is how I learned our family vet has died. He was only 66, a super nice guy, terrifically kind to our animals. Damn.

Re: Rest In Peace
yeah in my business, you get this "time line" that sort of tells you how lucky you are.
As I age, I make more and more stones with birth dates the same as mine......soon (hopefully), they'll be younger and younger than me. My dad pointed that out...until he was about 80, when he said "all my friends, and everyone I grew up with, are dead".........he was sad about that.

I have outlived two of my older brothers, and a sister in law who was my age. All to cancer. This is not a happy thing.

Raising a glass to my Great Uncle. Known to me and my family affectionately as "CB Danny", he lived to the ripe old age of 97.
All of my life he was the tinkerer, the mastermind, the magician, and so much more. He was that crazy old guy you couldn't wait to see! He was a radioman in WWII and continued as a HAM operator until he died. We spoke about this fascinating thing called Burning Man numerous times in his 90's. He became enamored by the creativity and was very supportive. He always said, "Where was this when I was young?" And then start talking about crazy shit he would love to build.
I'll be at the Temple at sunset one evening early in the week, passing around a really good bottle of whiskey in his honor with anyone willing to share! This one for you Danny!

Sounds like your uncle was a great guy from The Greatest Generation.
(((JayBobBoy)))We're very grateful for his service.
Damn! I wish I was attending this year, just to shake your hand would be an honor.

Fare-well,
friend,
companion,
warrior,
guardian of the hearth,
protector of family,
Fair farmind of true intent and loyalty,
and love,
Stride proudly into the unknown,
May you find your place
and may it be fair
as we accept your absence.......
for my friends who grieve, may it be true.

Re: Rest In Peace
At 2:25 am, my beautiful, best boy, August, lovingly known as Auggie, passed away. He was 18 years young. he passed gently in my arms, and is on his way to his new adventure.
I'll miss him so very much. I'll miss his keen sense of knowing when I took something out of the microwave to eat, and him 'pulling up a chair" at the dinner table, but never bothering anyone! I'll miss him welcoming me home from work with a loud meow, letting me know his food bowl was empty. There is so much I can say about Auggie, he was a good boy. He was the King of the Castle. Rest in peace my sweet beautiful boy.

so sorry MA.
May there be lush green grass, flutterbyes to chase, milk in his bowl and a soft spot to rest.
Again, the kitten.
MA, you gave him the best of this world, know, he'll have the best of the next.

Beautiful cat!
The loss of a pet can be tough for many people. I cried more when we lost Owl in 2009 and Alley in 2012 than I did when I lost my parents in 1986 and 1996.
