2 people seeking ride in large vehicle from PORTLANDIA

Post by rubycircus » Tue Jul 23, 2013 11:01 pm

Hello,

We are Holly and Michelle, we are fire dancers in the Oregon Fire Conclave and will be performing in the great circle. We have a 20ft dome, coolers, a flat table, two tents, a couple large backpacks, Two bikes, and fire toys.

We are well behaved and just need a large vehicle so that we know we have enough space for our stuff. We are willing to pay more gas money for more space if nessecary, we are both playa VIRGINS and just want to make sure that we are able to bring everything we need.

We are camping at 9:15 and D with FLOW FEDERATION! So we would ideally like help getting there, if possible!

Please help these two fire spirits get to the playa! We'll be good, promise!!

Michelle

While it is a bit more demanding than the old " have one backpack and a tote of supplies" type of ride share - who knows :) Good luck

Well, it's not really that we have a LOT of shit, it's more like you NEED a lot of shit to go to the burn. Could I survive on a couple backpacks and 10 gallons of trail mix? Probably. Do I want to? Definitely not.

yeah but theres that thing like.. beggars cant be choosers or something... at some point in that equation your wants will be outweighed by ..the fact that youre not providing your own ride+haulage

that IS a LOT of stuff for two people asking for a rideshare... like perhaps the most stuff ive ever seen on a rideshare request ever.

perhaps ditch the dome, the table and the bikes and you might be a bit closer to the norm, a bit.

perhaps you could rent a van!

I'm not begging, I am offering to pay for multiple people-spots to accomodate for the extra space. I am specifically looking for a large vehicle like a school bus or an RV, of which there are about 10,000 leaving from Portland. Most of what I listed, with the exception of the dome that fits in a large army duffle bag, is stuff listed on the burning man survival guide. The table folds completely flat. And every burner I've ever talked to told me I NEED to have a bike.

I am now in contact with a guy who's driving a box truck and is looking for riders and has lots of room. Yes, I have considered renting a van.

I am also not above lessening my stuff if there is a good situation.

I think it's perfectly acceptable for me to not want to have the bare minimum my first time in the desert. There's thousands of large vehicles going to burning man, there's no reason me and my friend can't be on one with all our shit.

Glad to hear you're in contact with a box truck driver. An RV will not usually have the space, because it's already hauling one or more people who already tend towards Camping Big and they have their own projects with them.

What you might do is have a back-up plan solidified: make a cargo van reservation with a company that doesn't charge for cancellations. Cargo vans seat only two, so you've got a lovely amount of space, and I guarantee you it will fit the stuff you've described. You can also park it on an incline and hose out the back when you're done.

Good luck! :)

Cargo vans cost 900$ to rent, for that I could buy one, or pay someone a shitload of gas money. Thank you for your suggestions, though.

I now have offers from two RV's, A schoolbus, and a box truck.

Me and my "high expectations" will see you guys on the playa!
