Greetings Eplayans,
We are bringing a small MV this year that will be covered in lycra and backlit for a nice even glow. In the past we have used LED wall washers but they did not distribute the light evenly. I'm thinking flourescent but worried that they are not sturdy enough for the playa. Any suggestions?

Re: Back Lighting Our MV
I have five 4-foot fluorescent fixtures on the bottom of my MV, and some fluorescent blacklights inside, and I haven't had any durability issues. I have those clear plastic sleeves over all my bulbs to contain them in case of breakage, which makes the fluorescents all but disaster-proof. I bring spare bulbs just in case, but have never needed them.
I think fluorescent is a good option, very high light output on pretty low power for pretty cheap.

Thank you Captain! I picked them up today and they diffuse the light perfectly. If you see an upright vacuum cruising across the playa, that's us! Playa-Vac!

Ha!!! Do you have a picture? Post it! That sounds awesome.
Glad to hear someone is doing something about the dust!

Fluorescents have some color and filter options, but you can also use HID industrial lamps.
There is a line of color lamps that use standard ballasts.
Green and blues are very effective.
Red is weaker.
Any lamp can be ordered silicone coated, with enough lead time.
