Hi GD! yeah, I'd say both.........as mentioned, we do need to acclimatize and prepare for 24/7 adventures and party. As such, booze and or coffee can happen any time!!
Hi Marty!!
Agreed, art is good.
I'm back to doing some work on "The Pinwheel of Death", my little fire effect experiment. I'm hoping for a test burn in the next few days.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Good morning Ygmir and Elliott! Also anyone else who happens to be hanging around.
FINALLY, after four years without....I finally broke down and bought a shade structure. Just the standard carport from Harbor Freight, BUT it should prove to be a boon with this year's bar.....first time for the Black Rock Beacon. I'm calling it "the Black Rock Beacon Foreign Press Corps Bar and Perpetual Soiree", with apologies to all who were in Saigon in '73 and to Craig Allen Johnston. It'll be open sporadically (when I'm there). We'll have to wait and see what it gets stocked with.......

Ah yeah, those snapshots are reruns, from when I was raising the roof on my bus. The glove caught fire while I was working, and I tossed it on the ground. When I returned to it, it had burned for a while. Seemed like an opportunity for a comical picture. I'm easily amused.ygmir wrote:very nice..........so tell the story of ventilating that glove.

haha nice. I have a similar story, with a shirt:Elliot wrote:Ah yeah, those snapshots are reruns, from when I was raising the roof on my bus. I was grinding something and caught the shirt on fire. it was loose, so, the flames got pretty big before I realized it, and, out of habit, I start undoing the buttons, really fast, to get it off.........hahhaaa. it took a second to realize the smart thing would be just rip the front open and drop it.......don't worry about losing a button. I did and it's still a rag I use at times. nice soft flannel and all.

I can't imagine it being the first time the beacon's had shade, I remember spending more than a few afternoons in 2006 and 2007 with Mitch and others sipping drinks and nibbling bacon under a shade structure....

Ah, I see you have met the 'bacon availability clause' - bacon available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for Beaconeers and their friends.trilobyte wrote:I can't imagine it being the first time the beacon's had shade, I remember spending more than a few afternoons in 2006 and 2007 with Mitch and others sipping drinks and nibbling bacon under a shade structure....
As Mitch would say,
Lux. Veritas. Lardum.
The shade structure is for me and the bar. We already have two carports up front. If you're really really nice, you might even get offered one of the best afternoon treats of all time - the Multisource Chocolate Martini, containing Ghirardelli, belgian chocolate, Godiva and just a hint of smooth creamy vanilla in the mix. Served with whipped cream and shaved chocolate on top.
Or perhaps you're into cinnamon vodka shots?
Either way, Trilo, you're a VIP in my book. Fishy too.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Thanks, you're too kind. I'm not sure if there was any kind of schedule, or that bacon service was something advertised. I'd known Mitch and a couple other campmates for years and we were camped a block or two away those years (during the Beacon's transitional years... after the name change but before being back on the grid). As things worked out the last few years the only time I was ever near Center Camp was either while I was rushing to or from a work thing, but hopefully this year I'll get the chance to stop and swing by.
Well, I'm back from the workshop, storage, and supply run, now to go grab a brush...

Twistees was a remark to LeChat, in regard to the awesome tool he made me.
Then I jumped over to you and I don't see the stuff in Texas or New Mexico, just the California and Arizona stuff. I would have seen the environmental documentation if it was a brand new station in my bailiwick.
Admittedly a confusing, string stream-of-consciousness post.

*strolls in, as the sun sets in the smoky haze of distant fires*
Say, Bartender, may I have a glass of champagne in one hand and a stiff shot of courage in the other, please.
On the one hand, I have finished preparing 17 Playa Bicycles, a new record. Only four more to fill the reservation list, and a few more yet as spares. The barn is full of bicycles -- I just need to select a few more and make the necessary repairs and desired upgrades. Sure wish I had a dozen more luggage racks and baskets.
On the other hand, Millicent The Bus has sprung a leak in her left front wheel hub seal, which turned out to be where all that darned oil came from, all along her chassis on that side. Luckily, I know who to take it to, but it will still not be cheap. And I'd rather have it done by a pro, so close to an important trip. Not the time to learn a new trick by practicing at home.
As for the bicycles, the one on the stand now is MyDearFriend's. With rear luggage rack and front handlebar basket -- and a gap in the basket for the Tour de Franzia spigot. It's a ladies' cruiser, but with a BMX handlebar.
Triken's bike served well last year, but gets the BMX treatment also this year -- less back strain.
My own machine is the ancient Schwinn road racer that I converted to Playa-worthy years ago -- mountain bike wheels, BMX handlebar.
Blah, blah, blah.
Sure hope Millicent's brake linings are not soaked too badly with the hub oil.

hey gang.....dang I keep missing Helitack!! well, *waves in absentia*.
Just back from a speed run with Looneytune to Reno to buy a car trailer. Such a deal, he had to commit to go immediately or someone else was buying it......and kudos to the seller: He promised to hold it for a few hours till we could get there, and he did, shunning all other callers until we could arrive, and say yes or no. LT said yes. great trailer, super good price. yay!!
hoping to re-unite Franken camper tomorrow........wish me luck!! trying a new lift/install method.

hey GD: how long, can you come here and stay, just in regular "tourist" mode? Are there "extensions"?
Hi AntiM! Luckily, I got your new art piece done months ago, so will bring a rock out with me.
I'm hoping to try/use my new lifting system for Frankencamper.......it's that I have to lift it almost 6' off the ground to get the fire truck under it, so jacks won't work. I'm going to try chain falls on each side, from my overhead hoist. Balance seems a little tricky, since I can only get to attachment points, which become "pivot points" upon lifting.
wish me luck!!
