Costco canopy water leaks?
Costco canopy water leaks?
Has anyone had issues with the costco canopies leaking water from the seams on the roof panel?
I just purchased a new one last week and set-up in the back yard for a test run. It has been up for a few days and went thru a few good rain storms....everything is holding tight, but I noticed it was dripping from under the flap where the stitching is on the long sides of the roof line. Is this a common problem with them, or have I gotten a defective one? I have tried searching the boards and google for anyone having the same problem, but I find nothing on the subject. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I was thinking about spaying the seams with a "flex-seal" type of sealant....thoughts?

I've had those canopies since 2000, several of them including the newest one with the little side awning and windows, and I haven't had that issue. You could try returning it if they even have any more, but I'd probably just seal it up.

I've used one of these in my yard for 6-7 months a year for about 7 years now. It is on its second tarp which lasts at best 4 years (on year 4 pinholes start to appear and we scrape an extra season out by patching with white duct tape).
The seams have never leaked but under certain conditions condensation has formed on the inside and dripped occasionally.

I will probably just end up spray sealing the stitching on the top of the canopy, rather than trying to box that all back up.
I went out to check it yesterday after returning from work and I noticed that is was quite wet inside along the edges....I just thought it had come in from under the sides until I had a few drops fall on me....then I started checking all the way down both roof sides, and it is definitely leaking from there.
Not what I had expected from my brand new, highly recommended shelter for the playa! DOH! tick tock...tick tock....more prep work....

Try contacting the manufacturer dirrectly - they have always been very helpful when we called.MissSmee wrote:I will probably just end up spray sealing the stitching on the top of the canopy, rather than trying to box that all back up.

Edit - Mine is Shelter Logic brand, doesn't hurt to call they may just send a replacement cover. BTW for future reference - the replacements they sell seem to be better quality than the ones included when you purchase at a big box store or at least mine was.

It dosen't usually rain that much out there, and if it does rain for hours, you'll probably be more worried about the water flooding in from the bottom than the roof.

Right you are Kenny.mudpuppy000 wrote:It dosen't usually rain that much out there, and if it does rain for hours, you'll probably be more worried about the water flooding in from the bottom than the roof.
And plus, this is a canopy for your car, like a garage, but not as good. The manufacturer probably won't guarantee that it doesn't leak.

Well mine came with walls (including human sized doors and windows) and has never leaked so there may be some merit to the complaint in their eyes.Ugly Dougly wrote:Right you are Kenny.mudpuppy000 wrote:It dosen't usually rain that much out there, and if it does rain for hours, you'll probably be more worried about the water flooding in from the bottom than the roof.

Just cause you buy it for the playa doesn't mean you should not be able to use it elsewhere.
