I hope it was cake batter flavored because I just dropped >$40 on incidentals (windshield wiper fluid, baby wipes, trash bags, eye drops (shit I forgot the saline!), baby wipes, sewing kits, lighters, car freshener, on and on) and the only thing I'm remotely interested in is exactly what cake batter chap stick tastes like...... ....that and whatever possessed me to buy it.Ratty wrote:1 tube of chap stick.

Hey guys, been a while. I'm busy preppin' these days - but all my playa family is far away, so I'll share my excitement here instead
Today was a good one - fixed up the playa cruiser, managed to fit a rear rack on it with some hardware magic. Dusted off the old chairs...and splurged on a new one when at the hardware store for the bike parts (It was on sale! It has a table! I had no choice in the matter!). Have the kitchen gear gathered, the coolers and bins rinsed off, most of the food is together, and have one stuff sack loaded with assorted costume-y bits, and put all of my lights in one box and was surprised at how many I have...how have some of those $2 flashing things survived for 5 years?? And the big thing! Picked up a nice foam mattress which should just barely fit in my 6' yurt..otherwise will be a nice, tho dusty, camp lounge addition.
I head out the door in two weeks -- ahhhhhhhhhh!/yeeeeeaaaay!

Um. Target shopping. I got spray bottles! Now we're cooking with gas.
Also, almost got my paperwork together for the van.

eLPea, I love your avatar. Was that from Monday of 2010?

Thanks Savannah! I don't think it was that wet in 2010, and that storm I hid from. This was just a few weeks ago. One can only fight the rain for so long before embracing it.
Almost got myself a spray bottle/fan combo... resisted that impulse today though.

Dug out the Coleman stove and discovered I had left it coated in playa dust. BUT! I had also left it coated in bacon grease, so it didn't rust. Cleaned it all off and fired it up for a test. Seared a ribeye steak, sauteed some mushrooms, and made a nice Cabernet wine reduction. Success! Camp stove is now on the playa packing pile.

Salvaged a fabric softener bottle from the recyclables, cut the spout off to widen the opening*
, lightly rinsed to maintain some of the product/aroma residue.
Put my house mates on notice that they are to remove any toilet rolls that reach the midway point and put them aside for me (and was promptly told to stop obsessing and just break down and spend the money for the roll-less variety)
Yes, it was a thematic morning.
Scored twelve double packs of "Red Rain" Energy shots for.50 per on close-out that's .25 apiece (compared to the $2.50 the crooks at rest stops along the road charge). That ought to get me at least to SLC.
Tried one out..... typed this really fast.

I did nothing for a change... rested because if work continues at this rate I'll die before I get there. And if money continues flying out the window at this rate, I'll be starting my own Miracle Gift Ticket thread next year!

Yeah, I know! Every few days has been another few hundred buck around here! I'm so glad I haven't kept track, and can't remember it all. I'd shit if I added this year up. I really hadn't planned on the tab running up like this.winterdream28 wrote:Last night we bought all of the supplies to make our ginormous Galaxy Hut. And I'm about to go to the hardware store again right now...
The only way I can justify this to myself is to call it "having a life", and a reward for the last five years of hell I just came out of.

I have reached the Warm Liquid Goo Phase Costume Hoarding Phase . . . the kind where you find yourself haunting Etsy in a kind of trance, and wandering the fabric stores with three bundles of interesting clearance yarn, even though you don't knit.

I'm in the "fuck it all" stage in which I order everything left to buy from Amazon even though I'm in the retail real estate business and it's the equivalent of ordering pesticides from Hitler.Savannah wrote:I have reached the Warm Liquid Goo Phase Costume Hoarding Phase . . . the kind where you find yourself haunting Etsy in a kind of trance, and wandering the fabric stores with three bundles of interesting clearance yarn, even though you don't knit.

I so know what you mean! I go on my lunch breaks the Goodwill and the fabric store and enter a total zombie trance! I want to create cool things but then realize my cards are maxed out and I don't know how to sew. Guess Hot Glue could get me pretty far too!
I can't remember--have you been reading Ratty's thread in Clothing and Playawear? "Start with What You Have?" It's great for inspiration.

ePlaya user Ratty started an absolutely wonderful thread about combining cast-off garments and household linens and whathaveyou in new ways, and making some truly inspired things. Since then, other people have jumped in with their strategies for costuming on the cheap. The best thing the thread does, in my opinion, is provoke us to think more flexibly and to realize that you don't have to buy some ready-made pricey thing from a trendy shop in order to be amazing.
Start with what you have. It's easier and cheaper. (Now at 17 pages of goodness!)
