Try this on for size. It's hard to stop looking long enough to actually make something.

Baby wipes, gallon plastic bags, and two flashlights for gifts. Love the dollar store - their little 9 LED flashlights are actually pretty bright and durable.

I just came from there. A 3 pac of travel wipes, (that's 3 packs for a dollar), plastic forks, disposable bowls, eyeliner, 2 light-up wands, 2 40ct pacs of make-up remover wipes, a dry erase board for the side of my van, (I already bought good magnets) and ponytail bands. $11.

ANNOUNCEMENT.....It's against the law to use USPS supplies for anything except their intended use. I don't condone stealing tyvek for making wallets or origami swans. Having said that......Fedex is fair game. Do you find yourself missing out on parties, events, jam sessions because you didn't write down the time and address? I appropriated, (THAT SOUNDS SO MUCH BETTER THAN STOLE), several Fedex, tyvek envelopes and fashioned them into small fold-up notepads that I carry with a sharpie. Viola! No more trying to read the smeared writing on my forearm. No more missed invitations because I don't know where to go. I love the durability of this notepad and I gift quite a few. Another great thing to bring is a highlighter for your WWW book.

Get over it, Ratty, you stole 'em. We still love ya, though
Sorry to hear about the brake job surprise, strange love. But like Elliot said, better to get the surprise now when the pain is purely financial, as opposed to on the road in a fully loaded vehicle catastrophe. Still, my condolences on the unexpected financial hit.
In addition to that permit paperwork arriving, it's been a busy few days in the infrastructure department. We ordered additional LED rope light, shade hardware, and the floor jack and jack stands we'll need to keep the van stable. I also got supplies for some playa gifts I want to make in the next week or two (so many things left to get done!)

And the Ultra Fine Point permanent markers make the best pens out there. If you journal or just like a reliable pen accompanying you, forget ballpoint as your first choice. They'll work for a while, but dust often gets inside.Ratty wrote:Another great thing to bring is a highlighter for your WWW book.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I made a calendar of post-it notes on the wall of my box truck last year. Each column was a day of the week and each post-it had an event/time/location on it. Easy to re-arrange when more, earlier-in-the-day events got added. I only made it to a handful of the events, but it was useful for remembering what day of the week it was.
When I remembered to take down the previous day's post-its, that is.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Ran a second set of 2-gauge cables from the Land Yacht's "house" batteries to the inverter... turns out one set of 2-gauge cables isn't enough, at least when you want to run the toaster and the lights and the sound system with the engine off... I'm almost thinking I should have just run copper pipe like I was threatening to. I suppose it's not too late.
I could move the batteries closer but I'm quite fond of their below-the-floor and up-forward location; better weight distribution and clean looks (entirely out of sight). Looks are everything on a Mutant Vehicle. Sometimes it's a real bitch to achieve the look and still make it work right.

Careful Capt.
What size inverter did you get?
I have a 3000/6000 and it has triple cables to each pole of the battery that are only 18"s long! (just went out and looked)
I'm beginning to think the copper pipe idea may not have enough copper to carry the load.

We have septic tanks here on LI..... in other words no outdoor plumbing(underground) and ONLY do one ply and also buy enzymes to flush to help with the breakdown.
In and of itself that's not a bad thing, it's just that we get our water from aquifers that are thousands of years old, they tell us. they also tell us to sparingly use fertilizers on our lawn because it seeps into the aquifers....... I don't want to know where all the raw sewage from the septic systems go.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Inverter is a 2000 watt Xantrex pure-sine wave fed by two 110ah Costco marine batteries. The issue is the cables are 16 feet long, plus a few feet in short cables going to a 150-amp circuit breaker next to the batts and a cut-off switch near the inverter. The cables are all 2 gauge, now doubled up. I got a really great deal on 2 gauge wire, or it would have been 00 or bigger. Or solid pipes.
I can power a bit over 1000 watts the way it is, which is OK because my alternators can't keep up with more than that anyway. I have a few short-term loads like the coffeemaker and the toaster, and it handles that if the engine is running.
Since I've converted to all LED and fluorescent lighting, my power draw for night time running is under 500 watts.

Yeah, I would have put the inverter next to the batteries. Then you could just run a normal extension cord out to your loads.
I guess when I build my OWN dust-yacht I can base it on Tesla's rather than Edison's ideas on power distribution.

Set up my 12 solar tiki lights that I got for my bday back in April to see if they charge/work and to see how long they run on a charge. Can't wait for tonight! I picture myself sipping a cold beverage as the sun sets waiting for those little LEDs to light up one by one!

The brand is 3M. I took some cheap duct tape last year and it failed pretty fast. My buddy had gorilla tape which worked well, but I heard the nuclear tape is even better.

The rest of it is all AC.
The batteries are up forward because of weight distribution reasons, and the inverter is amidship because that's where the nearly dust-proof electric equipment cabinet is, and i feel thats the only good place to install it. If it means I have to run huge cables, it's worth it for those reasons.
Tesla was right, but I'm forced to Edison the thing a little.
