The Bar, Volume #4
Re: The Bar, Volume #4
The Mechanical Magician just telephoned. Millicent is all done! Turned out, it was not the hub seal after all, but an engine oil line. I had noticed the engine using more oil lately! The tiny but steady spray of oil from the pressurized hose just happened to be aimed right at the inside of the wheel. It's still a "real money" job on my budget, but it could have been worse.
So I'm off on my bicycle to fetch her home again.

Congratulations Elliot! Millicent is so happy I'm sure!
I just dropped $4K to keep Gramma Car (aka PoopMobile) drip free. Every hose and gasket had to be replaced because for some reason after 5 yrs on the playa every hose the mechanic touched was brittle. Go figure! So I figured its either I drop $4K on a used car w someone else's problems or have my damn good toy-rotor burgundy station weapon w/o problems.

Hi MDF!
Hi Robbidobbs!
Hi GD:
so, who says one guy can't load a camper onto a fire truck?
action photos over on "work in progress".
ahaha
all went pretty well, only one "uh oh" moment, when, while 14' in the air on a ladder working the chain pull handle, the camper shifted about a foot right, as the previously frozen steel wheels of the carriage, decided to thaw. I may have lost a couple pounds in that second. hahaa
loading to commence soon, doors open and ready!!

Frankencamper!!! Isn't that just the neatest thing? When I get the rolling eyes, and "You go to Burning Man?!
" I try to convey my reasons for going... describing my subset of maybe-only-at-Burning Man things I go to see which includes the Frankencamper.
cool drinks will make for cool heads. It's about fun, and recharging, and enjoying our time. When I wake up with a feeling of nebulous dread about what I have to do, or haven't done. I try to snap out of it, and call myself a knucklehead!

Millicent's leak was in an "aircraft" hose with stainless steel braiding precisely to protect it from abrasion. But 231,000 miles will have its effects. He reported a mighty and lengthy struggle to reach it, so I think he earned his money.
Amusing thing is... he went to work on it soon after I left, in spite of first talking about next week because he is so busy. Somehow I rated a bump up the priority list. Of course, I know his boss pretty well.
Champagne in both hands today.
As for Frankencamper, how about next year we put my 33-foot 5th-wheel trailer on top of it?

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Easy on the Champagne, folks. Millicent still needs a thorough change of her transmission fluid, which has "turned to vinegar" after one too many hard hill pulls. Five to six gallons of fluid, and I really want to use synthetic fluid, which resists such overheating much better -- and costs a fortune. It's the old "pay me now or pay me more later".
But man.... On the whole, this old bus is a terrific deal. People sometimes spend hundreds of thousands of dollars for such utility.

first test of re-done "Pinwheel of death"..........mixed results.
it spun up, very fast, made a beautiful flame disk, but, the dang tank started freezing up and it lost pressure................
but, my layered brass shim idea worked pretty good, leakage was kept to a minimum.
I may try extending the jets, on arms, to see what happens.

*wanders in, makes tea*
I dunno GD, to me, Frankencamper is just keeping me "sharp"..........it's all dull if you're not near the sharp edge of things, no?
I've sprung a water leak in the fire truck! egad, in that it's a maze of pipes and covers and valves. I guess I'll be taking an "under the truck shower" later today (when it gets hot out) to try to find it, or them........

Sure wish I could be there, Knowmad and MA.... bouncing maniacally on couch between the two of you until one of you puked.
But of course I suspect that I'd probably be the embarrassed one. And it'd be a dreadfully long walk-of-shame all the way home for me.
So I guess a longdistance wave will just have to do.
i guess i get the walk of shame nomatter what... posted this in the wrong thread for long enough to get people scratching their heads as tho i'd shared lice

GOOD MORNING, BAR CITIZENS. I went out to karaoke with my best friend for her birthday last night, got big brass ovaries from God knows where, sang this and did not ruin it! Had to shut my eyes to hit those high notes at the end. The bar went nuts. I felt amazeballs!
Still a little intoxicated.

Savannah, next time be sure to get video evidense.
Yggy, I like your way of thinking about it. Always need something to keep you paying attention.

The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

Nice one, Savannah! I had a long ass night of painting and then setting up jobs for the laser. And today it was up early to go fight with the cantankerous machine. *shakes fist* it's coming together finally, but it's been an uphill battle. The'll be plenty of makeup drinking later this evening, campmates coming over to help paint and coat stuff...
