I'm 30 and have worked for the past few years in a job I don't really like, and didn't know what I was doing with my life, but then I started to remember all the things I thought about doing when I was younger, and realized I can finally make it happen.
Specifically, I want to create immersive dancing spaces that make you feel like you've really been transported to a different place, if only for a couple of hours. A lot of my inspiration comes from the Seattle psytrance scene of the late '90s. Never before have I seen people put so much love and attention into a dance party, and even if that scene has died out, I still want to make it happen for someone else. I want to make it happen through things like fluorescent painting, el-wire, computer-generated projected visuals, and computer-controlled lighting. I have a vision for what I'd like to do, but don't have the knowledge or the resources yet to make that happen. I've come here to meet like-minded individuals, see what kinds of things other people have done, and learn more about how to do the kinds of things I want.
I am also interested in learning how to DJ and maybe produce music, but I already know people who are into that kind of stuff, and it's not as high of a priority to me right now. Also also, I am learning computer programming, so that I can transition into a career that is a lot more like what I want to do with my life.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Doesn't it seem weird to be dancing to computer-generated music?
There was a time when machines danced to our music?

Welcome!
Suggest you attend the event once, then make your plans after for the environment you are envisioning. Likely you will find collaborators there.
There are Portland/Eugene/Olympia/Seattle groups of burners with similar interests. Did you say you are in Portland? There is a regional there, FB, and you might look up Woosday, Tuesdays at the Roadside Attraction.

Re: Hi, everybody!
Yeah, I definite plan on attending--in 2014 if I can, but that is doubtful, and it will more likely be 2015. I do plan on getting involved with the local burner scene, and already know a couple people who have been going for several years.

Welcome, Space Wizard!
Collaborating with locals is definitely the key to getting involved in a really intense collaborative effort, and you've got tons of Burners in your area. Check not only "Regionals" on the main site, but google some Portland/Eugene groups on Facebook too. On ePlaya there is a lot of technical know-how in a million very specific ways, and some social togetherness, though slightly less in the way of long-distance collaborative projects.
Spark would be a good place for you to visit as well.
