Post where?

Post by Serin » Sun Aug 04, 2013 1:19 pm

Hey folks, can someone tell me where to post for some help? everyone of your blog treads have posts from ys ago? How about you post them in the order that they are posted ! DUH And why when i want to post on the vast majority of blog threads you wont let me post? how can you just have some you can and some you cant? they all look the same to me! And most important if I have a responce to help someone else then why do your monitors allow ANY hazing at all. my well intended reply post gets buried in BS. I have a camp structure setup which is really great, really far superior to most others but where in the hell would i post it?

I'm sorry, but your post is a little hard to understand.

If you're asking where to post a question about something, that depends upon the question. The board is organized by categories - Preparation is for general event preparation, the 2103 Event board is for stuff specific to this year's event, 2013 Event Tickets is specific to tickets for this year's event, etc.

"How about you post them in the order that they are posted" I don't really understand that one. All the posts in any given thread are posted in the order that they were posted. Take this thread for example. Your original post is first, and each subsequent reply appears in the order in which it was posted. If you look closely, you can even see the time and date that post was made. If you're asking about the order in which the threads appear in each of the message boards, the boards are sorted by the one with the most recent activity at the top, and then in descending order. Take a look at the 2013 Art & Performance board for example. As you look at the list of topics, notice the column titled 'Last Post" - after you get past the three 'sticky threads' that the moderators have pinned at the top, you'll see that they're in descending order, with most recent at the top.

"And why when i want to post on the vast majority of blog threads you wont let me post?" I don't really understand that one, either - I'm not sure what you mean by blog threads, so it's hard to know why you wouldn't be able to post in one. If you mean a discussion thread, unless the topic is locked (you'd see a padlock in the icon next to the thread title on the list), you should be able to post a reply by clicking on the large "Post Reply" button at both the very top left and the very bottom left of the page.

As for the question about hazing, it sounds as if you may not be familiar with snark and sarcasm, which has been a part of both the Burning Man culture and this message board from the very start. Please take a moment to read through the article I linked, and you may want to consider reading through the entire Overview of the ePlaya to get a bit more acquainted with the board. If you've got additional questions, or aren't quite sure what category would be the best fit for a question or discussion you'd like to post, please feel free to send a private message either to me or any of the other moderators and we'd be happy to help.

To answer your question in the last bit, about your camp structure setup, I'm not sure what you mean. If you have a setup that you're selling, that wouldn't be allowed (see this post regarding commerce & advertising). If you've got a setup and you want to share your plans and diagrams so others could make their own, you'd post that in Shelter & Camping section of the Preparation category. If you mean something else, you're going to have to specify. Please feel free to post a reply or send a private message, please be as clear as possible.

This is why I didn't opt to be a mod. (I don't know that there was ever a serious offer, either.) I cannot consistently, calmly, clearly and kindly explain these sorts of thing to people...

Gee Sorry. So lick this idea. I thought of posting on "art and performance" but it was suggested that i use spark instead. Tried three times to post but said I took too long. months ago. So I saw "shared resource board" which was full of postings about ride sharing and thought my post would just get buried. Just trying to connect. Thanks for the clarity admin. Thought that if I responded to a post it would for sure get lost. And if you list the threads in order of popularity ( which makes sense, now) then it seems random dates to me. A little less so recently. And as to asking what i want out right , here is the wrong place and was just looking. Was trying to post about an art piece that i need help with. I have a serious short term memory problem and have a hard time navigating here. Thats why i start way early on things cause i cant function under a time crunch. thanks for the clarity and maybe with a spanking I'll feel right at home. I'd forget my ass if it wasn't screwed on.. omg i'm turning into my mom. Thanks for the buddha's at Rods Road and 6:30 last year or I'd still be looking for my camp. Hoping to leave unscathed this year..... uh yeh right. maybe you can evaporate this thread soon.

Well, for Odin's sake, now that we know this, we will be much better able to communicate with you.

(Except that I'm falling asleep, so maybe more communicating tomorrow.)

Serin, just do your best to post in the right place. If necessary, moderators will move the thread. If you stick around things might fall into place eventually. This thread will not be deleted, though--we almost never delete posts unless they are spam or name-calling.

Heck, having this thread helps us remember: Serin's doing his/her best, but has memory issues. :)

For a start, you're not starting anything early at all if you're just getting around to posting about it in August. ;)

Spark is the best place to post for collaborations, listings there get a lot of traffic - more than a similar thread would see on the board. I'm sorry that you took too long to figure out your post - perhaps you should start writing your post in a word processor, then copy and paste it once you've got it together so that the page won't time out. If you're posting about an art project at this year's event, then the Art & Performance board is the right place for it.

The threads aren't in order of most popular (ie most posts at the top), it's the most recently active at the top. New stuff with few or no replies would be at the top if it was the most recently active.

And no worries, there's no need to evaporate your thread. Good luck with your project!

Good morning, Serin! I very much agree with Trilobyte's suggestion about composing your post in a word processing program, taking all the time you need, and then pasting it into the ePlaya posting field. I do this myself when I write longer posts that need to be coherent. I us MS Word, but there are others.

Do I understand it correctly that your real name is Leif? That would make you a Scandinavian, like a couple others here. Skål!

I just had 23andme genetic testing done, turns out I'm mostly northern european and some scandinavian too. If you need any tips on how to keep your skin from burning on the playa just ask, I'm a pro at it now.
