I know there are a load of threads on googles and eyewear, but after reading all the ones I could find, none address high myopia prescription goggles.
Has anyone had any success in finding prescription goggles for high diopters? I am -8.5 and -9.0. Most goggles, like WileyX, only go up to -8. Swim goggles go higher but I have read some horror stories about busted eye arteries at the playa.
My plan was daily wear lenses with WileyX but some people have expressed doubt.
Thanks.

I've used contacts every year I've been on the playa, and never had a problem. I prefer the long-wear ones, so I don't have to deal with as much dust, but it is very do-able if you need to use daily wear. One big thing to remember about the goggles is that you won't be wearing them constantly, so getting fancy ones that just hang around your neck most of the time might be a waste. Mine pretty much only go on if there's a lot of dust, or if I'm doing a lot of biking. Otherwise I just wear cheap UV sunglasses over my contacts.

Yeah...people go nuts trying to figure out goggles...and most of the time they end up just being a fashion accessory. I've got 8 years on the playa, prolly used my goggles twice...don't get me wrong, when you need them you really need them, but don't go crazy...a cheap pair of old ski goggles work fine...unless you want to make a fashion statement...and you'll see a lot of that.

Another suggestion is to just wear your glasses and get ski googles which sit over them. I mainly wore my prescription sunglasses during the day and only put the googles over them a few times, they fit fine as they have soft foam which "seals" the face and protected my eyes enough. N.b my sunnies do wrap around my face a bit and I stupidly didn't take non-prescription sunnies to wear over contacts (d'oh - on my list this year though!)
I also wore my glasses at night too, as i was too lazy to put contacts in once the sun went down:)

After 7 visits, my prescription lenses with photo-grey covering is scratched to hell by whiteouts; so bad I only wear them on Playa, with ski goggles when needed. I am myoptic with astigmatism, so I can not wear contacts anyway. My driving glasses I keep in the car glovebox.

Re: High Myopia Prescription Goggles?
You can always go hit up your local military surplus store and get standard issue goggles. Out of necessity, the government managed to cook up a single pair of goggles that should easily fit over most glasses, and be adjustable enough to fit just about any head. If I remember correctly, the standard gogs come wih a clear and a tinted lens that are easily interchangeable, and are inexpensive enough that you can pick up a couple pair (backups!), and are fairly easy to decorate and modify to suit your own uniquely awesome style.

The sun, wind, and dust goggles do indeed have an interchangeable lens, but I wouldn't call it easy to swap...definitely not something you do on a whim.
