But hey, it's fence day! That magical day where hard-working men and women stake out a chunk of inhospitable desert so that we might collectively turn it into paradise for a little while...

Fences.
there was a time in which building a fence in open range land was something that could get your house burnt down. the concept was open land for all, (radical inclusion)
the burn was so much better back then. Of course we didn't have LED's back then and someone inevitably lit themselves on fire while trying to illuminate their outfit with an oil lantern.

ok.. I'll just stop now. Seems I've lost my Snojo (snark-mojo)

I think Knowmads comment was historically speaking (of the old west). And maybe a little tongue in cheek :lol:

@Misa - bacon-wrapped sausage, YUM

@knowmad - It's not being burnier than thou to point out flaws in jaded burner rambles.... it's just being snarky. ;)

@box burner - I read them as old west/old playa, as well as tongue in cheek...seeing as he wouldn't know what either was like. I was poking fun at his poking fun.

It's been a weird day on collaboration projects. Pandorra and I have been in the early stages of planning a big collaborative art project for the fall, but I got word from one of the organizers that they're now making some pretty significant changes to the whole thing, and we may need to back out of it entirely. It's frustrating as hell since it's something we really want to do and have already put a lot time into ideas and research, but it looks like if we continue we'd be compromising some stuff that's really important to us. Meanwhile, another project we helped out with is finally seeing the light of day. I like how the video clip for BRAF's grants page came out a lot. It's not my project at all (I just did some title music and incidental stuff), but I like the piece a lot, and it was interesting to see how it evolved from last fall.

In other news, I'm finally back from the workshop joint. Had a very productive session on the laser cutter, I think I got all the rubber stamp work finished up. I've got more laser work to do, but am now a little nervous because a shipment of materials that was to have arrived today still hasn't shown up. Ah well. Time to grab some lunch and then get to work on a few different little projects, then painting and coating stuff for the rest of the day.

Just got word from the playa - the perimeter fence was finished at 2:59pm today - a new record! They started pounding T-stakes at 5:30 and finished at 8:30 (another record), then finished the whole fence in 9.5 hours. Hooray! Drinks all round!

They must have an apparatus that spits those stakes into the ground like Survival Research Lab's Lumber Pitching Machine Cannon?

So, is anyone else wondering how worthless tickets will be after the omg sale? Those extra 3000 seem likely to make a difference...

I'm sure there'll be plenty of discussion about it somewhere...

Stake-wise it was all done with hand tools, muscle, and lots of sweat. It's also worth noting that Gate operations started up today, they'll now be manned 24 hours a day until sometime post-burn in September. Things are really starting to bustle with activity out there this week!

To be honest, Knowmad, they sound like the dreary, doctrinaire, and joyless feminists you'd hate actually spending time with. I was in Minneapolis/St. Paul in 1984--I couldn't call myself a feminist for 20 years...
