Getting out on Sunday ... will I manage without plans?

Post by Neris » Tue Aug 06, 2013 4:46 am

Hello!

I'm Nancy/Banjax, a second time burner and I have to catch my flight back to the UK at 11am from Reno airport on Monday morning (sob. gonna miss temple burn.)

My question is that I don't have a ride out sorted. I'm sort of hoping to find someone who can give me a lift... a) does anyone reading know anyone [I'm well nice and will keep entertainment up and if we stop for ice-cream I will feed you ice-cream while you drive], and b) is this a very bad idea to sort of go in assuming I can meet someone who can help me , or do you think I'll be able to find something?

thankyou thankyou

edit: have messaged the two people who have suitable rides on rideshare and posted up, of course, just still feeling a little anxious!

It's common to see people with a sign in exodus. That solves the problem of connecting you, your luggage and the ride.

On playa anything can happen with arranged meetings. So getting a ride from your camp is the first choice, or a neighbor camp that you help pack up is better than trying to get you, your stuff and the ride all together across the playa on playa time. Another possibility is connecting with Doc Pyro's hotel deal and arranging a ride with someone going there.

I had a ride arranged out with a friend. I went to their camp to check on the ride scheduled for the next day and they had decamped and they are "we are leaving now". But I did find an epic ride the next day "there is this guy over that way that's leaving soon", door to door service 500 miles and entertaining.

Hey Neris, if your flight is 11am on Monday, i would spend a few hours finding people who are leaving right after temple burn then pack your stuff (in the ride) on sunday, go see the temple burn and leave right after, if you are very lucky your ride will be stopping in a hotel and you can book a room (or maybe they will let you use theres) and you can shower then sit at a bar in the casino (the sands is cool) and get a free shuttle to the airport in the morning.

Also as you are in Camden, (apart from the burning pub) do you know anywhere cool to hang out with burners? oh and you can you do me a favor and go to the tequila bar by the lock,by the stairs at the bottom in the open air bit where all the food stalls are, and ask them for the name of a really good sipping tequila? (middle or top shelf) then PM it too me? i would be really grateful. come to Dread Pirate Barbie and i will share or give you a patch or something.

Hahah, right. Yes it's me at Nowhere festival. :?

If you're seriously interested in Tequila you should come by our camp (are you going?) at 9:15 and G, the Flaming Merkin - at least three of our campers are hardcore specialist booze enthusiasts and the Baron in particular is a tequila expert, so he might be able to answer some of your questions.... otherwise I will endeavour to find out what I can. Wha's the name of the bar?

And also, I think I'm going to get out on Sunday, I have a hotel room booked for Sunday night so I can wash and rest and eat before doing a transatlantic flight all stinky and terrible. I don't forsee myself enjoying the temple burn if I feel anxious about missing my plane, really...

I'd recommend Rumpus for a good burner turn out, as well as the Balsa Blighty event that is happening :) I'm at Burning Pub every single month almost though.

I'm giving this a nudge to the Share Resources board, since that's a better fit for rideshare posts. You may also want to look into this.

You can leave a message at PI a day or so before. BMIR will also have folks stop by occasionally to announce that they have space and are driving to XYZ destination.

I haven't sorted my return trip as I am not driving this year, but I found it easy to find options for folks looking for a ride to Reno and such.

There are issues getting to Reno in time, due to various logistics, including an accident closing down the highway for several hours. Look at this thread for an idea of the issues.

You're going a day later, so there will be more traffic leaving BRC too. (good for getting a ride, but longer in lines)

And speaking of that traffic, you can dodge the bulk of the lines waiting/driving on the playa with the burner express bus (BRC vendor buses have an express lane on/off the playa).

Thanks for the advice. We're running a bar so I guess I'll ask around and put a little sign up or just ask the no doubt LOADS of people we'll meet :)
hopefully I won't have any problems, would be awesome for my mental health if I could lock down a ride and not worry, have had a couple of offers to leave before it gets light but I think I want to have a good final Saturday night so leaving in the mid-afternoon ...
